Advantages: Works

Disadvantages: Drying time

After having a bit of a disaster with the deodorants I had been buying I thought I would look on the internet to see what the best ones were. The name that came up time and time again was Mitchum. I had never heard of this brand at this point but it appeared well known by others. It seems they do a roll-on, a spray deodorant and a stick version. Apparently it was launched by Revlon back in the beginning of the 1970s and they had a campaign with the slogan: "So effective you can skip a day" which isn't something I shall be trying but is quite a claim to make nonetheless. I rather get the feeling that this product is more known in America than here because I don't ever remember that slogan and the section on the Mitchum website lists all the retailers that they have there like Target and so on, no mention of Boots and co. In fact I couldn't find an equivalent UK site so it must be quite new here or the customer base is quite small.

Well I thought I'll double-check the shelves of Boots and Superdrug next time I'm at the shops because I'm sure that's not something they sell. So I went into Superdrug to get some bits and pieces one day and what do I see but a huge promotional display of Mitchum. So maybe it is new here. Anyway all the Mitchum products were £1 off. I had heard that the stick was prone to constant breaking and the spray deodorant only average but seemed to hear almost all good things about the roll-on. I don't usually use roll-ons as I am put off by the drying time but I had thought to myself that were I ever to see the product on offer I would buy it to see what all the fuss was about. So as it was being sold for £1.74 I thought that was pretty good so I grabbed one. There were three varieties, the fragrance free which I picked up or the powder fresh or shower fresh versions. The bottle is an unusual moss green colour with pearlescent finish which is unusual but I rather like it. It doesn't look like the picture above. On the front it promises forty-eight hour protection and says that it minimises white marks. It also warns not to use on broken or irritated skin. A bottle contains 100ml.

To use it unscrew the cap and shake it to get the liquid inside onto the rollerball. Then just roll it under your arms. I do it just the once because if you do lots of swipes it takes that much longer to dry. I have noticed that when it dries it turns from clear liquid to a white powdery look. How long that lasts I don't know, I never have the time to check it but it is a bit odd. It does claim no white marks so I hope that it the white powder doesn't transfer onto the clothes. It takes about five minutes to dry so this is a product I only use when I am not in a hurry and am blow-drying my hair or something. I can imagine that were you to get dressed straight after you might feel a bit icky under the arms as it wouldn't have time to dry. For this reason I also keep a spray deodorant so I can use whichever depending on how much time I have on that particular morning. In terms of effectiveness I would rate it highly. I have found that it really does keep you dry as people said. I went into my local Primark the other week where for some reason it is always about five degrees hotter than any other shop in the centre and it still kept me dry. So far I am pleased with its effectiveness. However I don't think I would leave it 48 hours before re-applying because I am not sure it's that powerful. I have heard that this works by sealing up your sweat glands. I don't know whether this is true or just rumour but some have said that it sounds like it is fighting against the natural system and can't be good for the body but again I don't know if this is true.

So to sum up I would say this is a good buy especially if it's still on offer and so far have found it lives up to the hype. I would still keep a spray deodorant handy thought for those rushed mornings.

Summary: Definitely worth £1.47
