"Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow. " This slightly pretentious expression was used to describe the delicate matter of underarm perspiration. There was nothing delicate about the pongs which rose on a summer day from the gentlemen who considered it sissy to use deodorants until the early 60's or thereabouts. I know, because I was there. Could this be why it was considered discourteous for said gentlemen to remove their jackets in polite company? Prior to 1888, what with Friday night baths, no showers and several layers of clothes, I wonder if the present day citizen could have stood the natural essences which would have been evident ...

MUM deodorant has been around since, well time began...for me anyway! Seriously though, as a little girl I remember my mum using this deodorant for years, it was her favorite. Packaging --------- Well the bottle is nothing amazing, it is slightly old-fashioned, with the lid co-ordinating with whatever fragrance you have bought. For example, cool blue - yes you've guessed it, has a blue lid! There is something comforting abut the familiar logo and packaging of MUM, I suppose a recognition from childhood. What has happened to unperfumed deodorant? I haven’t been able to find my usual product (Right Guard Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Aerosol) in the shops recently. They have brought out a new, repackaged range, and I think the unperfumed one must have been discontinued. It’s certainly not available around here. (Update 27/7/01 - It's now back on sale.) (Update 7/11/01 - Whoops! It's gone again!) Then I noticed Mum Anti-Perspirant Deodorant. It is a roll-on type, available unperfumed, and is extremely good value.
