"Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow. " This slightly pretentious expression was used to describe the delicate matter of underarm perspiration. There was nothing delicate about the pongs which rose on a summer day from the gentlemen who considered it sissy to use deodorants until the early 60's or thereabouts. I know, because I was there. Could this be why it was considered discourteous for said gentlemen to remove their jackets in polite company? Prior to 1888, what with Friday night baths, no showers and several layers of clothes, I wonder if the present day citizen could have stood the natural essences which would have been evident ... Like pretty much everyone I wear deodorant - it's not pleasant not to! We all perspire and it can smell horrible so I use deodorant every day to keep BO at bay! One of the roll on deodorants I have tried is 'Mum' which has been around for many years and can usually found on offer. I actually bought my 50 ml bottle from Poundland recently. The bottle is recyclable glass with a bright pink lid to offset the name of this 'Classic Care fresh Pink' variety... Advertised as a 24 hour roll-on deodorant with no alcohol it in, this product's design is to roll on under the arms with a big plastic roller ball that gets coated with this ... I have to be honest it is so long since I have last seen a Mum roll on on the supermarket shelves that I was more than surprised to see it on offer in Sainsburys. The Mum Roll On was on offer at such a good price ( 57p) that I could not resist buying one for old times sake. I have been using a Sanex roll-on, that was on a special offer in Wilkinson's and I will readily admit that it is one of the best roll-on deodorants that I have ever used and it smells wonderful. I chose the Mum Sensitive Care roll-on. The 50ml roll-on is well presented, it comes in a clear glass bottle that I would think can easily be recycled. The label and the plastic cap are ... MUM deodorant has been around since, well time began...for me anyway! Seriously though, as a little girl I remember my mum using this deodorant for years, it was her favorite. Packaging --------- Well the bottle is nothing amazing, it is slightly old-fashioned, with the lid co-ordinating with whatever fragrance you have bought. For example, cool blue - yes you've guessed it, has a blue lid! There is something comforting abut the familiar logo and packaging of MUM, I suppose a recognition from childhood. The shape of the bottle is slim and very easy to hold, well designed for using. What does claim to do? ---------------------- MUM - ... Read the complete review

What has happened to unperfumed deodorant? I haven’t been able to find my usual product (Right Guard Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Aerosol) in the shops recently. They have brought out a new, repackaged range, and I think the unperfumed one must have been discontinued. It’s certainly not available around here. (Update 27/7/01 - It's now back on sale.) (Update 7/11/01 - Whoops! It's gone again!) Then I noticed Mum Anti-Perspirant Deodorant. It is a roll-on type, available unperfumed, and is extremely good value. It currently costs a bargain 65p in Superdrug, but is normally around 98p. So I bought it, tried it and yes, it does the ... Read the complete review
