The smell itself isn't overly pleasant although it's not so harsh that I can't stand to smell it. If you use the cream in a room and then go back in half an hour later the smell does linger somewhat so bare that in mind when using it. I've always tended to shave my bikini line and legs but have recently noticed that it's starting to dry out my skin and leave it looking a little red raw in certain areas.
