“ Brand: Avon / Type: Hand & Body Lotion / Suitable for: Hand & Body / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
I love to try different body lotions and body butters. One of the most noticeable changes that I have experienced as I have aged is that my skin has become noticeably drier. This is probably my age combined with the fact that I don't have the time to look after my skin in quite the same way as I used to now I am a busy mum of two. Whatever the reasons, I require quite rich lotions and butters to apply after showering to rehydrate my skin.
I first bought this Black Cherry and Nutmeg lotion from Avon several years ago and I was recently pleased to discover that it was still available in their range. The current price is £1.50 for 200ml (January 2014), it usually retails at £3.
The lotion comes in a rounded clear plastic bottle with a label on the front containing product labelling. This is dominated by a picture of cherries. The top of the bottle has a flip cap on and this opens to reveal a small hole through which the lotion can be squeezed. Through the bottle you can see the lotion, which is a very pale purple-pink in colour.
Immediately on opening the bottle, you can smell the black cherry scent - this is very definitely the dominant scent of the lotion. I would say that the nutmeg is very much limited to a 'hint of' proportions. It is very pleasant and sweet smelling. The wild cherry extract contained in this lotion is said to be 'rich in skin-renewing antioxidants and vitamins A and C, which are good for keeping skin looking young and healthy.
I apply this lotion after a bath or shower all over my skin. The lotion is quite runny but is easy to apply and is not greasy at all. It rubs into my skin easily and is absorbed quickly. After application, my skin is lightly scented and smells sweet. The scent is quite unusual and does linger on my skin for several hours after application, leaving me feeling fresh and clean. It does moisturise my skin well and leaves it feeling smooth and soft. On my problem areas - such as my elbows and knees which can be very dry - this works well but only has an effect for a short length of time so I tend to have to still use a body butter on these areas to achieve longer term moisturisation.
Overall, this is a great value body lotion with a gorgeous scent. It is light on the skin and leaves a subtle fragrance - I would definitely recommend it.
Avon Naturals Black Cherry & Nutmeg Body Lotion
I have been using Avon Black Cherry Room Spray with great success ever since it was introduced into the catalogue. I love the smell of black cherries, eating black cherry yogurts and love the smell of the yogurts and indeed the room spray. A recent offer from Avon tempted me to try this body lotion and the matching shower gel as well.
I use body lotion all the time in the summer months and tend to use a creamy moisturising wash and body lotion a few times a week during the winter. On opening the pop up top the fragrance is immediately apparent and reminded me immediately of the room spray. This is not really a good thing, whilst I quite like the smell, I like it better as a room spray and I wonder how much of my reluctance was due to the knowledge that by using it I smelt like air freshener. I decided to persevere and squeezing a small amount of the pale pink lotion onto my hands, I rubbed the lotion into my skin, the action of doing so seemed to dissipate the smell somewhat, either that or I was becoming immune to it, so I continued to use it on my body. My initial thoughts were that it is not a quick rub in and go lotion, it needed a bit of work to rub in and I seemed to need to keep squeezing a bit more and a bit more out.
I went to work that first day, expecting comments on the scent I was wearing, but either my workmates had suddenly turned polite or it was not as noticeable as I feared.
The fragrance is a strong black cherry with no discernible nutmeg, which is surprising as nutmeg does have quite a strong scent. Imagine putting your nose close to a newly opened jar of black cherry jam and then doubling the intensity.
The lotion did seem to keep dry skin at bay and I continued to use it until half way through, my daughter said she really like it so I gave the reminder to her. However, I do still use (and like) the hand cream in the same fragrance.
The container stands about 17cm and is rounded, semi-opaque with the front and rear labels stuck on the outside.
I think this works better for a younger person and probably female. Scent tastes a different at different ages and stages of our lives and what I love as an air fresher, my daughter loves as a lotion!
As a body lotion I found the smell a little too much, the lotion was too slippery to rub in easily, however, it did seem to work at keeping dry skin at bay. The fragrance was probably not as strong as I feared once rubbed onto the body. I guess the fragrance all comes down to personal preference and different skin types. Mine is good, but seems to need a little extra in the summer, especially as I swim quite a lot.
Stars 4/5 After all what did I expect?!
PRICE and AVAILABILITY:
Usual price is £3.00 from the Avon catalogue, however Avon frequently have offers on the Naturals range, so its probably not worth paying full price. Also, available from on-line outlets such as Amazon and eBay.
I love toiletries and beauty items and as well as stocking up myself I also know that when it comes to Birthdays/ Christmas it's very probable that I will receive an abundance of products from my mum and several of my friends. In amongst a 'goody bags' that my mum had made up for me (of products she had kept buying throughout the year and putting to one side) were several Avon body lotions. Although I have recently started buying Avon products again myself, after a gap of around a year due to no local Rep in my area, I was pleased nonetheless with my presents as there were several products in my goody bag that I had not tried so was eager to rectify this by having a pamper night.
With the weather being on the cold and snowy side over the past week I've found myself indulging more in evening baths to warm up as opposed to my usual preferred method of showering. One of the products from my Christmas present 'bags' was this - Black Cherry & Nutmeg Body Lotion from the Naturals range by Avon.
Having used this now several times over the span of nearly two weeks I feel it justifiable to start to review the product and I will now discuss my thoughts on using it..
This is a body lotion as mentioned from the popular Naturals range and whilst I have used this before in the past it was quite a while ago so had forgotten how it felt against my skin. The lotion is available in one size which is a 200ml and currently costs £1.50 with the RRP being £3, though there are always offers of some kind with Avon and it can be picked up from as little as 99p depending on which offer is on at the time. Presented in a slim line cylindrical shaped bottle the lotion can be clearly seen through the transparent plastic and it's plain to that the lotion is a warm but pale looking pink in colour. There is a picture on the front depicting mainly black cherries with a smaller image of what I presume to be nutmeg underneath but apart from this and the logo the decoration is quite minimal despite the images being on the large side. The product is easily accessible via the flip top lid which is perched directly on top of the bottle and this opens with ease whilst securely fastening as well which gives peace of mind that it wont cause spills if knocked over.
Availability wise this can be bought through a local Avon Rep by ordering through a brochure. Alternatively Avon offer a good range of their products on their website where you can buy through their avon shop though a P&P charge does normally apply so it's worth looking into this if thinking of ordering online. There is of course good old eBay which also offers a wide range of (new) Avon products so if hunting something specific it's worth checking out.
The directions for this product are pretty basic and quite generic informing us to "..smooth generously all over the body whenever needed.."
So what did I think of using this product myself?
My skin can be pretty sensitive at times though more so it tends to be on the dry side so finding (and using regularly) a good moisturising product is essential and especially so in the colder weather when skin can become dry and itchy even more due to the harsher elements. I love all moisturising body products though tend to favour lotions more due to the ease of using them - as much as I like butters and oils I find they take too long to absorb (if at all) but at least with a good body lotion it's quick to apply and normally does what it's designed for.
On flipping open the lid I was met with a very pretty cherry aroma which then triggered memories from when I used this product, and others in the range, a while back. The lotion appears to be quite thick whilst ensconced in it's packaging though emits fairly easily with a little squeeze of the bottle. Whilst I wouldn't say the lotion is thin in consistency neither is it as thick as it appears in the bottle and overall I'd describe it as being adequate; as I hate runny lotions but this certainly isn't one of them and neither is it so thick it takes an eon to rub in.
The colour is far paler once it's applied to my skin looking far more white than pink, and disappears more or less instantly when rubbed in which is always a bonus as I hate wasting time with creams that never seem to absorb. The fragrance is absolutely stunning and smells very fresh and fruity with the black cherry aroma seeming very real and not remotely synthetic which is sometimes the case with fruit fragranced products.
My first experience of using this lotion in recent times was after a bath when my skin was still slightly damp. I applied a reasonable blob to my skin the size of a 50p and found my skin thirstily drank it all up and it seemed to absorb instantly when gently rubbed in. The lotion feels incredibly lightweight and as mentioned the aroma really is beautiful but as the cherry is very prominent it's one to avoid if you are not a fan of cherry scents as this is not only noticeable on applying but also the fragrance lingers for quite a while after using it.
I really liked how soft my skin felt when I'd used this and found the '50p blob' size to be sufficient enough to cover my frame though when it came to using this as a hand lotion I found I was using almost the same amount again as it just kept disappearing into my skin.
I really like this product and have now used it at least a dozen times finding it to offer adequate moisture to my skin even in this cold drying weather. The lotion is very light which is deceiving as it gives the impression it will only offer light moisturising but the effects of the product when used have been very impressed and my skin has felt notably soothed and soft for at least 24 hours after using.
I love how the black cherry scent smells on my skin and is almost powdery whilst the lotion itself leaves my skin feeling soft and velvet like so for the money this currently is it is ideal. I've had issues in the past with Avon products as sometimes they can make my skin sore and generally disagree with it but I've had no problems or qualms with this whatsoever and am looking forward to trying out my other Naturals body products because if they are half as nice as this then I will be thoroughly pleased.
This smells beautiful, the aroma lingers delicately on the skin whilst the lotion itself does an impressive job at moisturising and all in all it's an excellent product. It may not appear to be the richest in consistency but that doesn't stop it from hydrating parched skin adequately though I will stick to using a separate hand cream as it didn't make much impact on my hands. This soaks into the skin as opposed to 'sitting' on the upper layer meaning it doesn't leave any sticky residue like body butters or oils can and gets the thumbs up from me but due to the lack of nutmeg scent I'm deducting a star as I would have liked to been able to smell this as well as the black cherry but if it's there you can't tell as it's drown out.
Still a fantastic product from Avon though and one I'll use again in the future.
4/5 from me.
===Why I Bought This===
I love fruity items and these were on special offer recently so I decided to give a few a try that I had not sampled before. I do not particularly like cherries but in products they can have a very nice aroma.
Avon is a long established direct selling network which used to sell just door-to-door but you can order directly from their website these days if you do not have a local representative handy.
Avon has 18 different brouchures issued throughout the year - or their stock can be viewed online.

£2.60 full price but currently 99p.
There is also a Body Lotion and Room Spray in the same range - both currently also selling for 99p.
For 99p these bottles are very good value. This version has been going for some time so must be a good seller or Avon would have discontinued it.
It has an attractive appearance - being pink and pearlised, but being in a plain bottle it does not look too feminine. Has a lovely spicy/fruity aroma which is quite true to the ingredients, though there does not seem to be too much nutmeg which is quite good as its not one of my favourites.
Although this is called a 'gel' it is more creamy in texture and appearance and while not giving loads of bubbles does lather and clean well.
This gel gives you a good creamy cleanse in the shower or bath - only a little is needed and the smell is lovely without being overpowering. It is refreshing to use and leaves your skin soft and clean without being taute.
I find these fruity products are great value when n offer for 99p and I stock up a present drawer with them to make gift bags for Birthdays and Christmases - mixing the fruity items with simlar products from Body Shop.
This variety has been on sale for a few years now from Avon which speaks for itself as often new versions are in and out of the catalogue before you even have a chance to try them.
Also although it contains nutmeg it is not a 'seasonal' sort of fragrance and could be used all year round.
After the shower there was only a very very faint smell left on my skin so it would not clash with any perfume you decided to use.
===Would I Recommend?===
My mum bought this from one of the Avon catalogues and it sounded so nice I couldn't wait to try it. It normally retails at £2.60 for 200mls direct from Avon. According to Avon, this shower cream has Bioseed Complex which is pure seed extracts that nourish, soothe and protect skin.
The shower cream is visible through the clear packaging. It is pale pink in colour and smells strongly of cherry and nutmeg which is very nice and not synthetic. The product is easy to squeeze out into the palm and it lathers up well in the shower. My skin does feel soft in the shower and the the gel cleans effectively without irritating and the lather is effortlessly washed off the skin.
Once dry, my skin is clean and my skin is fragranced with the smell of the gel, but the weaker fragrance smells more like a cheap perfume as opposed the deep smell from the gel itself. My skin also felt quite dry and I needed to get moisturised quickly to sooth my skin - so much for this Bioseed Complex! My skin felt just like I had used a bar of soap, not a shower gel that has nourishing and soothing properties.
The cheap fragrance on my skin did last for several hours, which I suppose made me smell clean, but I was not keen on it! I have used this several times to simply use it up, but I haven't experienced any skin irritation or redness.
I do not recommend this and I will be telling my mum not to buy this again!
2 stars for the gel smell and cleaning properties.
I must admit that sometimes I am a bit dubious to buy Avon shower gels at full price as I tend to find them rather expensive and I tend to trust brands such as original source and Johnson as I know I am getting a good product that is in some cases cheaper than the Avon ones.
While browsing through my last brochure I noticed that all of the Avon naturals range were on offer at a clearance price from 99p so I decided to give a few of the shower gels a go. In the past I have tried the black cherry and nutmeg room and linen spray and I did really love the scent so I opted for one of these varieties.
The shower gel comes in a clear frosted 200ml bottle which has a pop open plastic lid on the top. The design is based on a purple colour and it is nice to see the lilac shaded shower gel through the bottle. The front of the bottle has a picture of deep dark cherries and nutmeg.
The first thing you notice about this product is the scent. Once the lid is open the scent is rather powerful even when it is held away from the nose. I have to say that this cherry scent is not juicy and sweet as you may expect however it is tamed down by the nutmeg creating a subtle warm scent. The shower gel contains a bio seed complex which uses pure seed extracts that can help nourish sooth and protect the skin.
I really felt that this shower gel was a pleasure to use. It was luxurious and in my opinion the constituency was somewhere in between a gel and a shower cream. Only a small amount of the gel is needed to produce a big lather and a little of this really goes a long way. I also love how you can wash in the morning and still subtly smell this body wash all day. After use my skin always smells fresh and I must admit my skin does feel smooth and extremely clean.
I am extremely pleased with this shower gel and I would have loved to have tried the body lotion too but unfortunately I can't seem to find these items in the new brochure so I hope they bring them back soon.
I bought a couple of bottles of this while it was on offer for 99p in the Avon catalogue. It is usually £2.50, which seems a little expensive for 200ml of product to me.
This product comes in seethrough a bottle with a flip top, along with the label on the front presenting a picture of cherries and a smaller one of nutmeg. It looks pretty stylish and a pretty addition to the shelf. The only propblem with this bottle is that I tend to prefer shower gels to have a hanging device.
The product itself is a light pink colour and almost has a marble like sheen, making it look very feminine and pretty. When you smell it, it seems quite faint.. but this changes when you lather it up!
I use a netted puff ball (not sure what they're actually called) to wash with, and you really only need a small amount to get loads and loads of soapy suds on there. After it's been lathered up, the smell of cherries just seems to explode onto the scene. It's lovely and sweet without being sickly. I would say that the cherry is very dominant and I don't smell the nutmeg at all, but I don't really see this as a loss. Overall, a lovely smelling product. It's also one of those great shower gels that let the smell linger on your skin for a couple of hours after :)
This is more of a creamy wash than a gel, which is really great because gels sometimes have a tendancy to dry out my skin. This creamy product leaves my skin feeling nice and moisturised, which definately improved my skin after several days of use.
Overall, I really like this product, but would probably not buy it at its full price.
This shower gel is the best one in the Avon Naturals range and I brought it when I did a big Avon shop a couple of books ago because all the Naturals products were only 99p.
I like this one the best because it is creamier than the others and I think it's proper moisturizing which the others aren't even though they don't dry my skin out either.
It smells strongly of black cherries and my mum loves this one as well because she reckons it reminds her of black forest gateau which is her fave cake ever. I'll have to hide this bottle because I think she uses it more than me! You can smell the nutmeg in it a bit but I wouldn't have guessed it was nutmeg if the bottle didn't say because it just gives the shower gel a warmer smell that is a bit spicy under the black cherry.
You only need to use a very little bit of this shower gel on a scrunchie and even though you don't get loads of bubbles with this one you do get a good layer of lather that is proper cleansing. I love how clean and fresh I feel after getting out of the shower when I've used this shower gel and love it even more because the smell lasts for ages on my skin.
This one is deffo the most moisturizing out of all the Naturals shower gels and I've used loads of them so this one must be good because it leaves my skin proper soft after my shower. It's a cream shower gel and I reckon this is what makes it so moisturizing because the others in this range are proper gels and they don't make my skin soft at all, but they don't make it feel dry either so that's ok.
I think the Naturals shower gels are a bargain when they are 99p but this is the only one that I'd buy at the full price of £2.50 even though it's such a little bottle and I always end up using too much of this one because it smells so wicked and is such a soft and creamy shower gel to use.
Avon Naturals Black Cherry & Nutmeg Shower Gel usually retails for £2.50 but is frequently available on offer for really great prices. At the moment, it is only 99p! I think that is an outstanding price for a product of this quality and have been recommending it (along with some of the other scents from this range) to a lot of my friends.
It is the sort of product you can stock up on as it will keep for a year or two. At these prices, it might be worth considering putting some away ready for Christmas in fact.
I like a lot of the Naturals shower gels, with the Strawberry & Guava and Plum & Nectarine scents being some of my favourites. Next in line comes this one, as I particularly like the texture of this. It is very silky and soft to use, and it glides over my skin with ease. I really love that this is like a moisturising body wash in texture, but it works like a shower gel.
It only takes a very small quantity of this product to work it into a lather, and I find it is especially to do so when using a shower scrunchie or similar. I adore the smell of this product, and think it is very strongly of black cherry. It smells exactly how you would expect it to smell with a name like it has.
After using this product, my skin feels soft and clean. I have to make a point of remembering to use my body lotion after washing with this product, as my skin does not dry out quickly after showering as it does with other shower gels. As well as leaving my skin feeling lovely and soft, I also find that the scent of black cherry lingers for a few hours after showering both on my skin and in the shower.
So over all this product is affordable, it works well and it smells divine - what more could you ask for from a shower gel?!
