I have used a number of Neal's Yard Remedies products now and have always liked them. As well as the products themselves I also love the look of these products and the packaging and think they make a statement just by themselves.
Neal's Yard Remedies is a British chain of cosmetics stores. Its main aim or focus should I say is on natural remedies and getting away from the synthetic chemical approach to beauty and skincare that most other companies out there seem to have. They say on their website that their vision was to bring the expertise of the apothecary and a holistic approach to health and beauty to local people and their communities.
They actually have the following statement on their website, "What matters to us are people, their health and their happiness. We're obsessed with discovering and delivering natural ways to improve health and well-being and delivering outstanding natural and organic skin and body care products. We also believe passionately that our environment is of vital importance, both in its own right, and as the source of many of the plants and herbs vital to our wellbeing. That's why we actively support and promote organic,"
The first Neal's Yard Remedies shop actually opened as far back as 1981. It was opened in a corner of Neal's Yard in Covent Garden, London, hence the name. The founder, Romy Fraser. was interested in alternative medicine and wanted to bring together all the varying natural remedies available in one shop. I think this is why they always have such interesting ingredients and smells to their products. One of my favourites is their Geranium and orange Body Lotion. This has such a different smell to most other body lotions and I have been asked on various occasions what I am wearing as it has such a unique smell. I would say that you can definitely tell that orange is the most powerful smell in this lotion as it does have a very strong smell but it is not too citrusy and overpowering which I don't like. There is a hint of a flowery smell with the geranium smell and I think the mixture of these two scents works really well. The smells come in the form of essential oils of geranium and orange so I think the oil definitely makes the smell more potent. It also makes my skin really moisturised after use. I love oil based products as these really work well with my skin and this is one of the best that I have used. The lotion also includes vitamin-rich olive and pumpkin seed oils with soothing aloe vera and is for all skin types. The lotion massages really well into my skin and a little goes a long way which is good as this is quite an expensive lotion so the fact that it lasts is really good for me.
The lotion comes in their trademark blue bottle which has a great oldie worldie look about it and makes it a great investment if you want to put it in a guest bathroom or decorate with it as well as use it. In fact Neal's Yard Remedies actually say that their bottles are part of the product as well. They say that way back in 1617 when apothecaries were the fountain of all knowledge when it came to herbal products, the distinctive features of their trade were the blue bottles filled with herbs and potions. They wanted to bring that kind of look back into their stores which is why now, a lot of their products are sold in gorgeous looking blue bottles. The bottle has a black pump action nozzle at the top which I find really handy as it's so simple to just get the lotion out by pressing the top of the nozzle instead of having to fiddle around with screw caps etc.
A 200ml bottle costs £21 and is a product I really recommend.
I got this body lotion for a present, and the first I liked was the packaging - I the bottle isn't any old plastic, it's quite hard, dark blue, and looks really nice in the bathroom. it's also a really convenient shape if you need to keep it in a cupboard, because it's quite tall and skinny
The best thing about this this body lotion is the smell - it really smells delicious, although the smell doesn't last for ages, it lasts long enough, and doesn't get mixed up with any perfume you put on
The lotion leaves your skin really really soft, almost immediately, and after using it everyday for a week my skin was so soft, so now I only use it once a week to save it! it still keeps my skin soft even though I use it infrequently
The only downfall of this lotion is the price - it isn't a huge bottle. Although it's got a lot of organic ingredients, you can get similar lotions for a lower price
I was bought this lovely body lotion as part of a gift set, it was from John Lewis before Christmas and the set has a 45ml body lotion and about the same size shower gel. On the website the body lotion is available in a 200ml version, for around £11.
I would love to have a whole bathroom dedicated to Neals Yard products. They all come in a beautiful blue glass bottle, and the body lotion comes with a pump top. The bottle has the logo embossed on it and the label is pink.
I'm afraid I don't really know what geraniums smell like but the smell of this body lotion makes me think of summer. Its got such a warm, citrussy scent, without being overpowering.
I've mostly been using the lotion as a hand lotion, I'm not really one for body lotion as such, but a little does go an awful long way, you need the tiniest squirt to leave your hands feeling amazing and smelling great. It leaves my hands feeling super soft, and it doesn't feel greasy at all.
I really like the fact there is no greasiness remaining after rubbing in this cream as using cream on my hands usually leaves me feeling like i need to wipe my hands on my trousers!
A lovely product that makes me feel special.
