A feel good product but a bit too expensive

There are certain times in your life when you need a bit of extra pampering. For me, this was during pregnancy. I felt tired and unwell most of the time and a little bit of luxury was always welcomed.

My work colleagues kindly gifted me the mum to be set from Neal's yard when I announced that I was having a baby. I'm not one to buy expensive beauty products so this was a real treat. The product I am reviewing came as part of this set. My colleague told me that she had used this oil and had managed to avoid getting stretch marks.

The massage oil is packaged in Neal's yard standard blue glass bottles. I always think that these have a slightly old fashioned medicinal look to them and I love the branding. The bottle contains 100ml of oil and costs £19.50.

The title of the product says it all really. This is an organic oil for mothers and mothers to be. Although of course there is no reason why it couldn't be used by everyone!

It is designed to be nourishing and elasticity boosting to help prevent stretch marks. The website claims that Organic soya and almond help tone the skin. I don't know the science behind stretch marks but I'm slightly sceptical that one product can prevent them. I used this oil throughout my pregnancy but did develop marks in the last couple of weeks. So for me, it didn't prevent them. The oil also contains a blend of essential oils chosen to promote a sense if calm and well being. The fragrance of these oils is not subtle and is quite long lasting so I would recommend trying it before purchasing. I personally liked the fragrance and found it uplifting and relaxing at the same time.

For me, I loved the massage element. Taking the time to apply the oil and treat the skin was very therapeutic and I really loved using this product. I continued to use it after pregnancy and have recommended it to a number of friends.

My only criticism would be that it is very messy! It is easy to dispense too much oil ( you only need a very small amount each time) and then it takes a long time to be absorbed into the skin.

At £19 this is certainly not cheap but for me it was worth it. I would suggest testing the fragrance before purchasing and be aware that this is not a miracle product to prevent stretch marks! I have awarded it 4 stars due to the price.
