Nina Ricci Nina Body Lotion
Advantages: lovely scent, beautiful packaging, scent lingers on your skin for a long time
Disadvantages: not very moisturising, scent can become too over powering, overly fragranced - can irritate skin
I always seem to receive presents on my parents' birthdays, for whatever reason and his year was no different. My lovely mum recently celebrated her birthday in style with family and friends, and while she was showered with the gifts and love she deserves, I was getting presents too! I've never understood why I get gifts on my parents' birthdays, but I'm really not going to complain about it!
One of the gifts I received was the Nina by Nina Ricci gift box. Anyone who knows me will know that this is my absolute favourite perfume in the world and I'm always being given bottles of Nina as gifts for birthdays and Christmas (or just random days when my boyfriend is feeling cute!), but this is the first that I've received the gift box. It came with a 50ml bottle of Nina, a 50ml tube of shower gel and a 50ml tube of body lotion. I'll be reviewing the body lotion today.
The lotion comes in a small plastic tube (think travel sized). It is opaque white in colour and looks very simple & classy. The tube has a small Nina by Nina Ricci logo on the front, and also has 'Nina Ricci Soft Body Lotion' printed in silver. I was very happy to see that the tube of lotion opens from the base with a twist of cap. This makes it easier to squeeze out every last drop of product without having to shake and squeeze it for half an hour without any success!
After unscrewing the cap, I could instantly recognise the subtle, Nina scent. I feel that it's very difficult to get an exact perfume scent in any product, but this lotion does it pretty well. There seems to be an added orange scent in the lotion that I've never noticed in the perfume before, but I actually really like this addition to the scent. I've previously reviewed Nina - although it wasn't one of my best reviews, haha - so I won't bore you with the exact same scent description, but the lotion boasts notes of vanilla, caramelised apples, lemon and moonflower which all infuse together to create the most beautiful, feminine scent I've ever smelled.
The lotion itself is white in colour and has the thin consistency expected of a lotion. I know a lot of people confuse lotions with creams or butters, but a lotion is the thinnest of the three without being too runny or watery.
I'm not sure if anyone else is like this, but I always find that lotions based on perfumes don't focus enough on providing moisture, they just focus on getting the scent just right. This usually means that after rubbing the lotion into your skin, you can almost feel the perfume on your skin, which is a little strange. Sadly, this lotion is exactly the same.
Although it is very easy to rub in and takes no time at all to sink into my skin, it doesn't really do anything magical for my skin. Thankfully it doesn't drag on the skin either, but a little bit of product doesn't really go very far and I'd probably only get two or three full body applications of this lotion out of the tube. With saying that, I wouldn't want to use this all over my body as I feel that would be far too over powering, especially if you've used the shower gel (review to come) and the perfume (previously reviewed). I've been using this as a basic hand and foot lotion and it's been working quite nicely, but if you're looking for something that will actually moisturise your skin then I'd give this a miss!
The scent does linger on your skin for a long time, and I suppose if you're looking to boost the longevity of your perfume then applying this to the areas you'll be applying your perfume would help but due to the high fragrance content, you aren't really doing anything good for your skin. I certainly don't recommend applying this to the face as it will probably be slightly irritating, again due to the high fragrance content.
Another thing I'd like to add is that this is definitely not something you want to get onto broken skin. I've recently suffered a bad burn and I'm now taking antibiotics for septicemia (hence the lack of reviews recently), but I accidentally got a little of this product on the edge of my burn which hurt like none other. It stung for a good hour or so!
This is not available to buy out with the gift set. The gift set costs £34.00 from Boots at the minute which is the same price as a single 50ml bottle of the perfume and comes in an absolutely beautiful box. If you've read my Nina by Nina Ricci perfume review then you'll notice that the perfume has gone up in price recently.
Overall, this is a lovely addition to the gift set but doesn't really do anything special for the skin. I don't want to say it's a bad product because it isn't, but I find that strongly perfumed lotions will never be beneficial for the skin due to all of the ingredients used to make the perfect scent dupe. Like I said, this isn't a bad product, it just isn't a great one either so for this, I'll give it 3 Dooyoo stars.
Summary: a mediocre product, a nice addition to the set but not necessary
