Advantages: Works well

Disadvantages: Makes my armpits tingle!

When it comes to deodorant it's something I buy really very often and get through at the rate of knots! As a total gym-a-holic I can accept that whilst at the gym I pour of sweat but I couldn't cope with smelling like it! I don't go to a gym like that! lol

Now usually I favour a spray on anti-perspirant however I saw this on offer in my local Sainsburys priced at a pound rather than it's usual price of £2.29 and decided to give it a go simply for that reason!

The Packaging....

See-through glass roundish bottle with a dent to the back of it for ease of use and a pale lilac twist on/off cap/lid to the top of it concealing a large whitish rollerball. On the front of the bottle there is a light pink oblong label and on that in white, burgundy and navy writing I'm told it is Nivea Deodorant 'Double Effect' Anti-Perspirant Protection 'Violet Senses' with avocado extra to give smooth underarms for longer and that it's a 24 hour formula and the size is stated. On the back of the bottle there is a white label and on there the recycle symbol is displayed as are contact details for Biersdorf (the manufacturer of the product) and the bar-code is displayed. If you peel back that label (as suggested) your told a bit about the product and ingredients are listed, directions for use are given, storage details are also there and once again contact details are given.

A Bit About The Product According To The Bottle....

With natural avocado extract, softening the skin and helping you to get a close shave.

Leave underarms smoother for longer, 24 hr confidence, anti-perspirant protection and gentle Nivea care.

No alcohol, colourants or preservatives.

Directions For Use...

Roll on evenly and allow to dry before dressing. Don't not apply to broken or irritated skin. This is an anti-perspirant not a shaving product.

Me Using It....

Well first off I'm a little confused and Nivea must be too! One of the statements on the bottle says 'softening the skin and helping you to get a close shave' and then feels the need later on in information to point out this isn't a shaving product? Ok so they must mean you use this daily and then when it comes to shaving it's easier to shave. I'm not sure but it's weird lol.

So using this is rather easy. It has a large flexible rollerball to the top of it which is of course smooth and as you roll the liquid is dispensed. It comes out really easily and like a moisturising liquid really. in the bottle the liquid is like an opaque white lotion but as you apply it it goes on transparent. It's a bit wet when you first apply it but it sinks into the skin completely and leaving no residue in about a minute or so and feels gently hydrating and none greasy and then your free to get dressed etc. You can't feel it at all and it's job done!

The smell of this is rather nice. It's called violet senses which makes me think it's meant to smell of violets but to me it's a mature orchid sort of aroma. Quite floral and a little sweet and like I say to me it's a very mature and grown up fragrance.

Now a word to the wise here! Do not use this unless your of strong constitution straight after shaving! Sure Nivea says it's fine I do not! I applied it straight after shaving and it tingles so much afterwards it was uncomfortable. It had no other adverse effects as such but I decided not to do that again! So the next time I used it I applied it an hour after shaving and the same thing happened! The feeling does wear of but I don't like the feeling one bit so for me I'd only use this when my armpits are not shaved on the same day!

Does It work?.....

Sort of. Now as I mentioned earlier this dries rather quickly however the warmer I get and the more I perspire it sort of melts under my arms and becomes like a damp moisturiser. It's a bit of an odd feeling really however I haven't noticed any residue on my clothes when this has happened. The smell of the deoderant stays put for a good couple of hours and even with me pounding the gym I haven't smelt any nasty whiffs so yes.... it works well for me...

Overall....

I don't like the way it really isn't any good to use after shaving at all. Just for the purpose of this review I shaved my armpits at 7pm , applied this deodorant at 9pm and at 12am my armpits are still feeling sore! They also feel smooth and moisturised and are highly fragrant though but for me this is a no no deoderant I'm afraid!

Available in all good supermarkets and chemists.

Summary: Works but there is better out there!

Hm, I tend to stay away from anti-perspirants as they're supposed to be bad for the body.. I just use a natural crystal now, though it stinges a tiny bit if applied immediately after shaving too..
I always thought you need strong antiperspirants too, but often if you wash soon enough (& eat right) you really don't!
