Advantages: effective, subtle smell, long lasting
Disadvantages: price
I?m always in search of the perfect deodorant so often try new ones at the supermarket. I generally buy them once or twice and, disappointed, move on to something else. However, I?ve now found one that I?ve been using for a good six months and have no desire to change. That particular product is Nivea roll-on, and I?m crossing my fingers like mad that it doesn?t disappear from the shelves like my previous favourite, Secret, so mysteriously did. The specifications: Nivea roll-on is widely available from chemists and supermarkets and currently retails for £1.88 at Tesco. For that you get 50 ml in a transparent glass container. Look, Feel & Smell: Nivea roll-on is a milky-white liquid with a slightly thick consistency and it smells subtle and slightly talcy ? just like the traditional Nivea face and body creams. Personally I find the smell very pleasant and not at all overpowering (which so many deodorants can be). Usage: Take off lid, invert container, roll under armpits a couple of times. You?ll find it glides on very easily indeed and gives a good coating with just a couple of rolls. Claims: Nivea roll-on is an anti-perspirant and deodorant. The deodorant bit means that it?s scented and masks smells, whilst the anti-perspirant bit is the all-important one in my opinion as it means it will stop you sweating. It claims to be kind to skin as it?s alcohol-free, and to work for 24 hours. Drying Performance: Very importantly, Nivea dries fast. There?s nothing more irritating when you?re getting ready to go out or go to work than to have to walk around the bedroom with your arms in the air for 5 minutes while your deodorant deigns to dry. You don?t have to do any of this with Nivea as it dries in seconds. Sweating & Smelling Performance: Nivea does indeed stop me sweating. I can put it on first thing in the morning with complete confiden
ce that it will keep my dry throughout a busy day in an at times unbearably hot office. By the end of the day, my armpits are dry as a bone and still infused with a subtle talcy smell. 24 Hour Performance: I?ve tested Nivea several times on this claim, and I?m delighted to report that one application works just as well after 24 hours as it does after just one or two. Skin Sensitivity Test: I?ve never had the slightest adverse reaction to Nivea roll-on, whereas every other 24 hour one I?ve tried has made my armpits feel as though they?ve been trawled through a big pile of nettles. White Marks Performance: The thing that bugs me about most deodorants is that they leave white marks on my dark clothes. With Nivea, as long as you give it a short time to dry before dressing, you get no white marks on your black jumpers whatsoever. It doesn?t even stain your black bra. Recommendation: Nivea roll-on is far and away the best anti-perspirant deodorant I?ve come across. It?s gentle on the skin and yet provides total protection for a good 24 hours if need be. Add to that the no white marks and you?ve got a definite winner. Nivea is more expensive than many other deodorants on the market, but for me it?s well worth the extra for something that performs so well with no nasty side-effects whatsoever.
