Advantages: Cute bottle, works OK

Disadvantages: Very strong powdery smell

I have been meaning to try a new deodorant for a while and I was attracted to the Nivea Pearl Beauty one because of its lovely bottle. The bottle is light pink with a baby pink top and some darker pink/mauve shiny looking pearls pictured on the front. It looks very feminine and girly and I thought it would make a pleasant change from my purely functional looking Sure bottle.

Nivea Pearl Beauty Deodorant promises to give you 'beautiful, smooth underarms' due to its 'innovative formula with precious pearl extracts' which care for your skin. It also promises to be suitable for sensitive skin due to an absence of any alcohol or colourings. In addition, the bottle states that it provides 'Nivea's best ever 24-hour protection against underarm wetness and odour'.

Instructions for use are simple and are like those for any other deodorant. You simply hold the bottle 15 cm away from your underarms, press down on the top of the bottle and spray. It's important not to use the deodorant on broken skin or get it into your eyes.

As soon as I sprayed this deodorant I was shocked by the really powerful smell. It absolutely reeks of talcum powder which makes it a very heavy and almost suffocating scent. The smell stays on your underarms all day and also tends to stay in my bedroom for most of the day. It interferes with my perfume and is one of the strongest smelling deodorants I have ever used. If you love the powdery smell of talc then this might please you but I am not really a fan of it.

The deodorant works well enough and keeps me reasonably dry and odour free although I do find that sometimes it can cause little white blobs in my underarms which is a bit gross! I wouldn't say this is suitable for anyone who sweats a lot though, as I think it would struggle to perform.

I also can't see any difference in the condition of my underarms and they are certainly not beautiful as promised! It is possible that they are slightly softer but there's definitely not a big change so I don't think this deodorant lives up to its claims unfortunately.

I probably won't buy it again, mostly because of the smell. However if you want to then you can buy a 150 ml bottle of this deodorant from Sainsbury's for £2.39, or a 250 ml bottle for £2.88 which is obviously better value. It is also available from other supermarkets and pharmacies. Nivea also produce a roll on version which you can buy at the same places and which costs £2.29 for 50 ml.

Summary: Gets up my nose!

I'm using this at the moment and I really like it! I find the smell more floral than talc and I like the fact it actually works (was using Dove before which did not work at all well!)
