Advantages: Lovely Fresh Scent, Leaves skin smooth, but not slimy or greasy

Disadvantages: Doesn't work up a big lather, Not easy to find in shops, Slightly on the expensive side

I first started using Nivea products many, many years ago when they had only a short, round blue tin of cream that would calm the worst of sun burns. Since I am very light skinned, this became a staple in my home when I was a child. Years later, I used this same product to soften my kids' red, nappy rash bums. I was never disappointed with their products, and so when I saw that they were selling bath gels, I decided I should give them a try. This is a review on Nivea's Revitalizing Shower Gel with sea minerals from the Nivea Bath Care range.

To tell you the truth, up until I tried this bath gel, I was almost only a bar soap girl. Why did I pick this one to change my habits? Actually, it may seem silly but I picked this one because it was the only one on the shelf at the time. You see, we were on vacation, and I forgot to bring soap, and the stuff in the hotel made me itch and the bar soaps I found didn't smell nice or were overpriced, so this is what I grabbed. I think perhaps this was one of the firsts shower gels that they produced (but I may be wrong). Also, I was looking for something that would make me feel fresh and alive after my shower, because (as you probably know), I live in a pretty hot country. But since I started using this one, I've seen several other gels by Nivea and taken sniffs of them in the shops, but so far, this is the one that appeals to me the most,

Of course, most shower gels work much the same. Pour them onto a wet flannel or sponge or one of those puffy things they sell these days, and then apply to your already wet skin. This will produce lather, and when you're ready, you just rinse yourself off. Very simple, don't you think? Bet you wished those instructions were on the bottle! (Just kidding!)

So what is this one like when you use it? First of all, this fragrance comes in a lovely dark royal blue colour which makes you think of the colour of the sea on a cool evening. I have to say that this colour was very inviting, as well.

The bottle is made of clear plastic, so you can see how much product you have inside, and it has a fairly good flip-top making it mostly easy to extract the product when you use it. Most of you will find the 250ml bottle for £2.49 in shops around the country. I've found this in several different size bottles (on my trips across Europe) from what I believe are 500ml, 750ml and, I think even 1000ml. Once, when I was in Germany I found a 1050ml refill of this at the price of the 750ml bottles! Unfortunately, I don't think that the flip-top was meant to be used over and over again, since mine has gotten a bit out of whack and I have to fiddle it closed. But no matter, that, really - and it was probably my fault, anyway.

The gel itself is not very thick, and if you put it on your hand instead of onto a flannel or sponge, it might start to drip through your fingers. But it's not totally watery either - more the consistency of a thin shampoo (like Johnson's & Johnson's Baby Shampoo, for instance).

The scent of this gel is two-fold. First, there's a cool scent there – much like the scent of rain on a spring day. Then there's the scent of the sea which has a slightly peppery fragrance to it, but without any sour fishy undertones – much like what you might expect to smell when the waves crash against rocks on a shore. That must be the sea minerals it contains. Lastly, it has a soft flowery scent which isn't the least bit sweet, but rather very fresh and clean – almost like the scent of classic baby powder. When you first start to use this, you might find the scent to be slightly on the strong side, but as you use it, the strong sea and mineral scent seems to fade and the fresh, clean scent takes over. Personally, I love the way this smells, as it really makes me feel cool and refreshed even when I'm in the middle of one of my VERY hot showers (I believe that if you're hot, if you take a hot shower, you'll feel cooler afterwards by comparison. Call me crazy, but it works for me)!

This gel, however, only works up into a medium lather when you use it - and it doesn't make any difference if you're using a cloth, a sponge or a puff to apply it. This is the only reason why I gave this product only 4 stars, since I really would have liked a richer, thicker lather with this, but it just didn't deliver in that area.

After you leave the shower, you will notice two things. Firstly, you'll notice that the scent has calmed down quite a bit and although its still there, you won't feel that it's overwhelming, or that it will clash with your perfume. Secondly, you'll notice that your skin feels not only clean, but very smooth and silky. Now, I have dry skin and I hate using moisturizers, so regular soaps can make my skin feel tight and dry after a shower. With this product, I feel a real difference in my skin - as if I used the type of moisturizer I've always dreamed of (one that doesn't lie on my skin like a layer of oil, or make me feel greasy), so this is a particular plus for me.

Overall, I found this to be a really refreshing shower gel that makes my skin feel great. What more could you ask for? (Well, sorry, it isn't made by Lush!)

Thanks for reading.

The UK webpage for Nivea products can be found at http://www.nivea.co.uk/frameset.php and if you click on the "products" link at the top and then click on the "bath care" icon, and then click on "show all products" you'll see a list of bath gels. This one is the fourth on the list.

As mentioned above, while looking for the price of this in the UK, the first place I found was on the site www.myne.co.uk and it listed the 250ml bottle for £2.49 from Auravita. From there I went to Auravita's site and found it there at http://www.auravita.com/products/AURA/BEIE10067.as p
