Advantages: lovely long lasting scent

Disadvantages: messy lid

Back to my usual reviews body washes!!! To be honest I have tried a few since my last review on this subject but I really haven't found one to write about. Most of them have just turned out to be bland and not really worth mentioning and I have tried so many over the years that I am running out of new ones! But then I found this one while wandering around Wilkinson's and decided it looked interesting and I love Olay products anyway. So did it purk up my interest?

COMPANY HISTORY

Olay was started in South Africa in 1949 by a man called Graham Wulff, he was an ex Unilever chemist. The product was originally called Oil of Olay (I remember my mum using this!) He chose this name as a spin on the word Lanolin. The fluid was certainly unique and came in a glass bottle and Wulff and his marketing partner Jack Lowe marketed it in a very clever way, you see not once did they mention it was a moisturiser or beauty fluid, they just used clever advertising to draw the women in. You also couldn't just walk in a chemist and buy it, the pharmacists had to order it on demand.

The beauty fluid name wasn't added until 1970, Proctor and Gamble acquired the company in 1985 and also started to extend the range to include body washes, cleansers and creams. In 1999 the famous name was changed to just "Olay" across the world and also in 1999 the anti aging range "Total Effects" was launched and the rest as they say is history!

PRODUCT STATEMENT

If you like the feel of a light lotion, use Olay body was plus lotion ribbons- the only Olay body wash that adds an actual ribbon of lotion. The luxurious, fragrant lather softens your skin and visibly enhances its smoothness in just 7 days.

PACKAGING

This actually looks quite smart; it comes in a 295ml plastic bottle that stands up on the lid as most body washes do. The bottle itself is a frosty white colour and you can just see the colour of the product, which is white with thin lines of aqua blue running through it. The bottle has the Olay name prominent on the front and some aqua blue swirly bits, the lid is your basic flip top that gets messy after use (well for me anyway!)

USING

The directions actually state to use this product with a body puff thingy, which is a good thing as I always use one anyway. The first thing I noticed when I used this product was the smell, it really reminded me of another body wash I had used by Radox. It smells really fresh and reminds me of summer for some strange reason! It maybe that it smells to me of cucumber and for some weird reason that reminds me of summer, anyway it is a nice refreshing scent.

When you squeeze the product onto the body puff thingy at first it looks foamier that a normal body wash. A little tip if you do use this product you don't need to use much to get a good lather, this product really does lather well. You get a really good coverage of lovely smelling fresh lather, it is also quite easy to rinse off but I have noticed quite a few stubborn bits that need extra rinsing.

After washing and drying that lovely scent does last on my skin, it's not over powering but just nice enough to linger for a while (I still look stupid sniffing myself!). After drying I checked my skin to see if it felt any softer and at first I really didn't feel any difference but after using a few times I did notice that my skin did feel a bit softer especially around the parts of my body that tend to get very dry, mainly my elbows, knees and feet. To be honest it didn't get rid of the need to use my body moisturiser but I have to admit I didn't need to use as much as normal.

Also because I didn't have to use a lot each time I used it the bottle lasted for quite a while longer than any other body wash I have used, maybe that's a good thing but it also meant I got a bit bored with it! (I am so unfaithful!)

As I said I got this product in Wilkinson's

WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?

I can happily say yes I would buy this again and I will try the others in the range, I must admit I do like Olay products and the body wash is more expensive than I would usually use but it does last a long time so it's not to bad. I like the fact that it does leave my skin feeling softer and leaves a nice lingering scent, mind you the other half is starting to complain that it's like sleeping in Boot's sleeping next to me what with the moisturisers hand creams, foot creams, and now this body wash!
