Advantages: Non - greasy, moisturising, SPF15, healthy looking skin
Disadvantages: Too much packaging
I bought this product about 4 months ago after I had run out of my old face cream. This time, I was looking for a different brand because my previous moisturizer didn't have an SPF factor.
I try to protect my face from sun damage and, until I bought this product, used to put a face sun screen on top of my moisturizer during summer. Unfortunately, this always made my face feel way too greasy. And the last thing you want on a hot summer day is for your face to feel sweaty and dirty. This meant that sometimes (or most times I should say) I just opted for no sun protection at all. I'm now approaching the age when lack of good sun protection usually starts to show, so it was high time I started using a product with SPF factor on a daily basis.
------ Why would you want to use it ------
Olay Complete Care Multi-radiance Daily Illuminating UV Fluid seemed like something I was looking for. It has a UVA/UVB protection of SPF15 which is perfect for everyday use. Being a fluid, the product is very light and has a velvety texture. It is very easy to smooth over face and neck and absorbes quickly.
Apart from the fact that it protects against sun rays, the fluid is also very good at moisturizing. My skin needs everyday hydration but doesn't tolerate heavy products. This product is perfect consistency for me, it is very light and isn't greasy at all. I feel comfortable using it every day and my skin is soft. The fluid doesn't seem to clog up my pores but does a great job, moisturizing the skin. Although it is supposed to be used during the day, I also apply it during night because it is so light and I like to wake up with a fresh(ish) skin.
This moisturizer is perfumed but the smell is very delicate and quite pleasant, although not as much that you would fall in love with it. To be honest, I prefer that my skin care products don't smell too strong. That's the role of a proper perfume and I don't want it to be overpowered or to clash with the smells of other products I use.
Another property of this fluid is that is illuminates the skin. It contains tiny particles which reflect the light and make your face look younger, healthier and fresher. I noticed my skin can sometimes looks a bit grey and dull, so this is a great product to make it look better.
At first I couldn't understand how this fluid was achieving such an effect but after applying it a few times, I noticed that my fingers where shimmering with golden and pink shades (think - summer tan and rosy cheeks), which are creating an impression of a radiant, beautiful skin. After looking closely I could see the tiny particles on the tips of my fingers but they are really tiny and the fluid blends perfectly into the skin so no one looking at you will see them. The particles are not as evident as those in a shimmering face powder so the skin looks like it is naturally glowing.
To maintain the radiant looking skin in the long term, the product also contains vitamins B3 and E, pro vitamin B5 and mandarin extract (said to contain vitamin P)
Finally, the fluid serves also as a great base for make-up.
------ Packaging ------
The product is packed in a tall narrow bottle with a pump dispenser. The bottle itself is all white with simple front and back labels telling you what the product is, how to apply it and contact details. The neck of the bottle is in golden pearl colour, which is a nice touch considering that packaging is in general very bland. The golden shimmering colour also remind me of the light reflecting particles inside the product and radiant summery look that you are supposed to achieve by using it.
The pump works perfectly and you can easily control how much of the fluid you wish to dispense. To use, you need to turn the nozzle in an anti-clockwise direction in order to open it; then clockwise to close. I like this pump dispenser because it is convenient to use, the closing keeps the fluid fresh so you don't end up with the dried out end when you use the product next time; and finally there is no fluid to get under the fingernails, which happens very often during application of moisturizers in pots.
Unfortunately the packaging bit doesn't end here. The bottle is then packed in an attractive golden, yellow and white box. Again, there is an effect of shimmering particles in the colour of the box and this time quite a lot of information about the product, including ingredients, properties, directions of use and contact details.
I think this is too much packaging and therefore two much waste from just one moisturizer, although I might even understand why. In spite of the pump dispenser having a closing, I am still not confident that is won't just open up during travelling. I can just imagine this happening when I go on holiday and all my clothes covered in white fluid! To prevent that, I have kept the outer box and always put the bottle inside it when I travel. I have to say that it never opened up but it might be because of the box as it is very stiff. I would prefer, however, that Procter & Gamble (manufacturer) designed a small plastic cup that you can put on top of the pump dispenser, so it doesn't open. This would be less packaging, but I'm not really sure that would be more environmentally friendly...
There are two types of this fluid - normal/combination and normal/dry. You can also purchase this as cream, if you prefer heavier consistency of a moisturizer.
------ Final remarks ------
All in all, it is a great product and also last for a very long time. I bought it 4-5 months ago and I have only been through half of the 75 ml container. Pricewise, it is at an acceptable price of £7.49 in Boots, but I am sure you can get it cheaper if you shop around.
Packaging is not extremely sophisticated, but I am not going to take off any points because of it. I have learned not to judge a book by its cover. This saying certainly applies here. I will give it 5 out of 5.
