Advantages: contains no alcohol, reasonably priced, tastes good
Disadvantages: Not quite icy fresh enough to warrant 5 stars but that will appeal to some
For around 5 years now I have been a regular user of mouthwash - I use it after brushing my teeth in the morning and night, and even have a mini bottle with me at work so I can use it after lunch.
The beneficial effects I have noticed with regular use, is hardly any tartar or plaque build up on my teeth, fresh breath, the overall look of my teeth appears whiter and brighter too. My dentist is very impressed!!
I love using it because I now no longer feel clean enough after brushing alone, I like that icy fresh, almost stinging sensation that a mouthwash can give.
My favourites were Aquafresh and Listerine (for the iciest sting experience!!) Recently though I have been on the search for a non alcoholic mouthwash because like many, I read a report saying mouthwash containing alcohol was four times more likely to give you mouth cancer, and nine times if you are a smoker. Sobering facts!
At my local Tesco I bypassed my usual brands in favour of non alcoholic Oral B because, well that was the only one available! Serious lack of choice for this product - Dentyl do one but its about £4 a bottle!
At £2.50 for a 500ml bottle I thought that Oral B was priced quite reasonably. The packaging is a clear plastic bottle with a white rather large lid which is used as your mouthwash dispenser.
As well as freshening breath, the product promises to fight plaque and protect against cavities. So far so good - it compared well to all the other brands I had used.
Now for the taste test! I was pleasantly surprised actually. Its not harsh like the other brands containing alcohol but then again its not too weak - you do get that clean feeling, albeit not as strong but I realise that will appeal to many people who don't share my love of stinging sensations!
To use correctly, fill the cap about half full and swish around your mouth, after brushing, for 30 seconds - 1 minute. Spit and rinse.
The mouth cancer article scared me so I will happily give up the sting for the cancer. I highly recommend this product for people who would like a less harsh sensation, and for those who like me, have read the articles and got the frights!
Summary: The best alcohol free mouthwash I have tried
