My mother-in-law has a calendar this year that's all photos of Southern France. January and March are lavender fields in Provence. Long lines of lavender bushes turning the countryside into a giant swatch of purple and mauve corduroy. She told me how she went to the area as a young woman and walked through the fields where the smell of fresh growing lavender hangs in the heat all around you.

Now I can't get to walk in a lavender field in Provence, but I have had the next best thing this week - Original Source Tree Tree and Lavender moisturising body wash.

I suffer from perfume allergies. The problem is that it takes body warmth to bring out the allergic reaction in me. This means I have to use and wear a product before I can tell if I'm allergic to it. I can't tell just by opening the bottle and sniffing it in the shop. This means my friends and family are constantly getting bottles of shower gel, shampoo and perfume I love but can't use. It's very depressing, very disappointing and rather expensive having to keep buying things you can't use. Original Source offers free samples to test and that's perfect for me. I get to try out a product and don't waste my money buying things I can't use. The samples come in small sachets that easily tear open.

What's it like?

I was a bit wary when I first saw the Tea Tree and Lavender sachet. So far I've only had the fruit smell variety and in the past herbal scents like the radox range have made me sneeze my head off.

On opening the smell was very gentle until I squeezed it out of the sachet. The colour is an almost pearly white-lavender, like the palest of tinted porcelain. The gel is reasonably thick and lathered fine, although more creamy than foamy. The scent once foamy was very nice. Not the over-powering sweet lavender scent you get from some products. This is more a natural herb ver
sion with a clean fresh outdoors scent that is very pleasant. The sachet states "aromatic and refreshing" and I'd have to agree 100% with that. It's an astringent herbal scent, not sweet.

It worked well as both a shampoo and a body wash. Afterwards a very gentle scent stayed on my skin after drying and during the day. This body wash was more creamy, but although my skin still felt soft and good at the end of the day without the need for moisturising cream I must say it feels that good with all Original Source products. So it wasn't any more moisturizing than any other I've tried.

Allergy wise, how was I? Fine. No sneezes at all, which surprised me a lot. As a comparison Yardley's English Lavender gives me both the sneezes and a sinus head ache.

Would I buy it again?

I'm not usually a lover of lavender, but this one is nice. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I would consider buying it again.

The aromatherapy guide says that lavender oil: "An excellent first-aid oil, lavender soothes cuts, bruises and insect bites and can also be added to your usual bath oil for a relaxing, stress-relieving soak. For insomnia, place a lavender sachet or a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow."
