Advantages: Refreshing and Reviving; smells lovely.
Disadvantages: Can't wear perfume after using this.
Browsing the shelves in the supermarket, I stumbled across the Original Source range, I say stumbled: the bright colours and bold writing of the Original Source range stood out above all other similar products, making them hard to miss.
I had heard a lot of positive comments about this range and as the shower gels were buy one get one free; I decided to give it a whirl.
The Tea Tree and Lemon; is the shower gel that appealed to me; a bright yellow liquid contained within a bottle; In keeping with all Original Source products, the bottle has bold black writing on the front (see pictures). This combination of strong colours and strong text; sets the Original Source range apart from the other shower gels available.
Original Source, Tea Tree and Lemon, is made by ‘Cussons’ and is available in 250ml bottles; priced at £1.99 (although this may differ from store to store.) This product can be found in all supermarkets and I have seen them in a couple of ‘corner shops’.
All Original Source products are made with natural fruit and plant extracts; not synthetic fragrances. Curiously upon the Tea Tree and Lemon shower gel it displays the symbol that suggests that it is suitable for vegans.
The Original Source range; do not test on animals and the packaging is recyclable (very eco friendly!).
Upon reading the back of the bottle; it provides a cute little history of the Original Source Range. The tale tells like this;
‘The Original Source range of shower products is inspired by the bush remedies of Ellen Wakeman. Daughter of missionaries in New South Wales, she disgraced her family when she ran away to join the Australian Gold rush in 1857. By means left vague in the records of time, Ellen persuaded a barber to take her on as an apprentice. While learning to shave whiskers and pull prospectors teeth, she also discovered the healing powers of the plants that grow in the outback – and became famous for her herbal cures.’
(I think this is quite a nice ‘original’ quirk for a shower gel; to inform the consumer of its history.)
The Tea Tree and Lemon shower gel is claimed to ‘make your senses come alive’.
The formula helps to reduce oily skin and the citrus elements refresh and revive you; leaving your skin soft and feeling refreshed.
The directions are to work over the body with a wet sponge whilst in the shower. You can use this to wash your hair; if you do so, only a small amount is required.
Avoid contact with your eyes; should contact be made; rinse your eyes immediately.
People with sensitive skin should always test products on a small area of their skin; prior to use.
---
On using the product; the smell hits you straight away; the Tea Tree and Lemon aroma is very intense; yet is also very pleasant.
The liquid is pretty thick and lathers well.
As claimed the citrus oils do indeed leaving you feeling remarkably refreshed; which is terrific for people similar to me: who absolutely hate getting out of bed (with a vengeance) and generally feel tired and groggy for the best part of the morning. The Tea Tree and Lemon shower gel refreshes and revives you leaving you ‘bright eyed and bushy tailed’ and all motivated for the day ahead.
I find it actually has the opposite effect to its claims on oily skin; I don’t suffer from excessively oily skin; but after using the Tea Tree and Lemon shower gel on my face; I suddenly had an oil problem. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend this for facial use.
Tea Tree and Lemon also claim to be suitable for use as a hair washing product. I personally thought otherwise; having longish, fine hair, the shower gel caused it to dry out; and without conditioner to accompany it, my hair knotted very easily and felt greasy and lifeless fairly early on in the day. Even following its use with conditioner; I still didn’t feel this wasn’t suitable as shampoo; the result wasn’t as bad; but by no means acceptable. Although, having said that; my husband uses it to wash his hair and reports satisfactory results.
Overall for general body wash, this product is terrific and the smell lasts almost all day. The bottle is very practical; the lid fits to the bottom of the bottle, and acts as a hanger; so that you can hang it from the shower lead (or whatever you want it to hang from). The dispenser is drip free and so the shower gel can be left hanging indefinitely.
I think that this product is of very high quality; but the appropriateness of it depends on your ‘beauty regimes’ and life style. It is completely suitable for my husband and he has nothing but praise for the product.
For me; I like the refreshing and reviving start to the day that it gives you; however I do like to wear perfume and with the smell being as powerful as it is; I am only able to use one or the other: The ‘Oscar de la Renta’ perfume wins and I shall buy shower gels that do no have such strong aromas.
