Advantages: It's Original Source!
Disadvantages: The lemon smell is just too strong
As you must already know from my many opinions on the subject, I love nice bubble bath and shower gel and I particularly like almost anything from the Original Source range.
One of the few that I had not yet tried was the Tea Tree and Lemon Shower Gel. I had tried the pure lemon one and found that was far too strong both in fragrance and sensation – a bit TOO tingly in some areas if you know what I mean!
Anyway I decided that I should try the Tea Tree and Lemon variety to see if the addition of the tea tree calmed the sensation down at all. I also realised that I could then write an opinion about it too!
So first of all what does it look like?
The container itself is made from transparent plastic so that you can see the yellow shower gel inside. It has a black hooked top so that you can hang it up in the shower and here’s the clever bit you can twist of the hooked top and click it on to the bottom of the container thus hanging the shower gel upside down making it easy to get the gel out when you’re in the shower!
I will just tell you a funny story here. My sister Helen had been to visit and, when she had gone home, I noticed that she had done this with the shower gel in the upstairs bathroom! Until this point I had always thought that the worst bit about Original Source shower gel was the fact that it only hung the right way up in the shower and I had to fetch it off the hook, twist the top off and try and get the shower gel out whilst holding the top in one hand and the container in the other!
Now, how many of you are saying – what an idiot I thought everyone knew that! If there is someone else who is thinking – well, I never realised that either, do let me know!!
Anyway all this means that the shower gel hangs upside down in my shower so that a good squeeze puts a nice blob of the thick yellow gel on my hand. It does look a bit like lemon curd at this point! The gel doesn’t seep out either as the small hole in the top of the container is set in a soft rubbery sort of material meaning that the gel doesn’t come out unless the container is squeezed.
What are the promises for this one?
The writing on the front of the container offers ‘the most refreshing and reviving shower experience ever’. Since it contains lemon oil I would expect it to be very refreshing and, knowing Original Source, reviving to the point of WOW!
One of the other important things from my personal point of view is that only natural oils are used and none of the Original Source products are tested on animals.
There is also a lot of information on the back of the container about Ellen Wakeman who is the person credited with discovering the healing powers of the natural oils used by Original Source, although how true this is I don’t know!
So what was it REALLY like then?
I only needed to use a small amount of the gel, as with all the Original Source products so they do make good value for money. I usually just get wet in the shower and then rub the shower gel all over with my hands, but if I’m feeling like pampering myself I use my sponge, which makes for a lot more bubbles!
It can also be used as a shampoo, but I would rather stick to my proper shampoo and conditioner. Mind you if I was feeling really decadent I could buy Original Source shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and body lotion all to match couldn’t I? Now there’s a thought…….
BUT it wouldn’t be in the tea tree and lemon fragrance I’m afraid. I still found the smell too strong although the irritation factor was substantially reduced, presumably by the addition of the tea tree oil.
The fragrance lingers both in the air and on the skin for a while so I did keep getting a whiff of lemon for a while, which was nice.
And how much does this cost?
The shower gels are usually on sale for around £3 each, but Boots and Tesco’s often do two for the price of one offers so, if you like them, keep your eyes open and stock up when they’re cheap!
In conclusion…….
This shower gel is up to the high standards of Original Source products but the fragrance is still a bit too strong for me I’m afraid, so I’ll be sticking to either Orange and Grapefruit or Lavender in future.
It is also worth a mention that, as with all products containing essential oils, it is worth making sure that they are appropriate for you before you use them. For example it is not advisable to use certain oils of you’re pregnant.
Summary: A great shower gel but just too strong!
