Advantages: lovely smell, vegan, not tested on animals, stores well in my shower, widely available
Disadvantages: may overpower some, no storage hook, not the cheapest out there
When I first started dating my husband (though he was my boyfriend then obviously), he was rather proud to show me the Original Source shower gel in his bathroom. It was being one step ahead, because Original Source is certified by the vegan society so was ideal for me to use as a vegan. The product is also not tested on animals. Although the shower gel comes in many scents, the lemon is my favourite.
The bottle is clear with a black top, so it is easy to see how much is left. The bottle stores upside down which means that product is normally at the entrance to the bottle ready to get out. The product is got out of the bottle by pressing the main compartment. The clear part is textured which makes it easy to grasp with wet and lathered hands. The bottle balances well ontop on my shower unit, although it would be preferable for some people to have the old design of bottle which featured a hook for easy storage.
It is widely available supermarkets, chemists, Boots, Superdrug etc. Prices vary but you shouldn't pay more than £2 a bottle, and often they are on "buy one, get one free" type promotions -especially in superdrug.
The gel itself is quite thick. This means that only a small amount needs to be squeezed out to wash an area. The smell is really, really, really zingy. It is very fresh and lemony. I can't smell any tea tree in it, only the lemony smell. Now I like citrus smells, I actually had lemon oil as one of the aromatherapy oils in labour, so for me this is absolutely great, but I realise that this could easily be overpowering for some people. The product produces only minimal lather - it isn't a soapy bubbly type of item. It cleans well, and I have not experienced any reactions on my skin. My skin is of a slightly oily type and I always feel it feels soft and fresh after a shower.
Summary: I love it, but it may be too strong for many.
