Advantages: Great smell
Disadvantages: Doesn't lather up much, smell doesn't linger
I have a lot of shower gels stacked up in my bathroom which are the results of various presents, free samples and impulse buys. I am slowly working my way through them, and this week it was the turn of Original Source's Lemon and Tea Tree Shower Gel.
This shower gel is available from supermarkets for around £1.92 for a 250 ml bottle, making it a reasonable, if not budget, buy. It comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black lid at the bottom, which allows the gel to settle near the lid and means that you don't have to do too much squeezing!
Original Source describe this shower gel as 'Naturally Intense!' and 'Perfect to blast away the cobwebs'. All their gels are 'packed with natural stuff, using only 100% pure and natural essential oils to make sure you have a shower like you've never had before. This particular one contains 'Lemon and Tea Tree essential oils, taken straight from their natural source.'
The shower gel is vegan and is not tested on animals, so that's good news for our fluffy friends. It doesn't have any synthetic fragrances or parfums and uses 100% natural essential oils, so it is worth being careful if you have sensitive skin, because strong doses of essential oils can irritate some skin types. It may be best to try using a small amount on just one body part first.
When I used the shower gel the first thing I noticed was the slightly odd texture. It is quite a thick, shiny looking gel and feels a little bit sticky at first. However when you rub it on to your hands or body with water it begins to lather up a little and feels pleasant. It won't give you lots of foam though.
The smell is probably the best thing about this shower gel. It is a very strong smell that will really wake you up. The lemons are easily distinguishable and give the gel a very zesty, citrusy scent. However you can also clearly smell the tea tree. I am not usually a fan of the smell of tea tree oil but mixed with the lemon it stops smelling medicinal and starts to smell clean and fresh, and takes a bit of the sourness away from the lemon. The smell as a whole reminds me of a spa, because it is uplifting and calming at once.
Sadly the smell doesn't linger on the skin long afterwards, and I also found that my skin was not super soft as it is after using some shower gels or creams.
Aside from the smell, this is an average or even slightly below average shower gel that doesn't have any pleasant foaminess or moisturising skin benefits, but the smell does make up for that. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to buy this again but I would happily use it if I got given it as a gift.
Summary: OK shower gel with lovely scent
