Advantages: plenty of essential oils, no artificial fragrance, not tested on animals
Disadvantages: smells like lemon curd, expensive
A lemon curd tart that is. Or at least you will, if you use this Original Source Tea Tree and Lemon Shower Gel. Part of the very popular Original Source range of beauty products, this shower gel contains essential oils of lemon and tea tree. This means the original article, not any synthetic fragrances. And not only does it contain essential oils, but it contains a great dollop of them as well. Unlike other products that claim to contain essential oils that are actually way at the bottom of the ingredients list, this one has lemon oil at number 4 and tea tree oil at number 6 (ingredients are always listed in order, starting with the most common). The shower gel comes in a simple no-fuss design bottle with a lid that doubles as a shower hook so you can hang it upside down in the shower. It also has a no-drip opening so that the gel comes out easily with no waste. The gel itself is thick and bright yellow, and the smell of the lemon is strong. Unfortunately the lemon smell is not some zesty sour smell that will wake you up in the morning like a kick in the teeth, but it's the sort of lemon you get on lemon curd tarts. Hence, using this will definitely make you smell like a tart for the rest of the day - whatever takes your fancy. That aside, the gel is thick and gloopy in consistency. Although it doesn;t lather very well, it does a good job of cleansing and you don;t need to use too much in one go. Also, the inclusion of tea tree oil acts as a natural antiseptic cleaning agent, getting rid of those little microbes that can cause body odour for you. How kind! The product is not tested on animals, which is a plus in my book, and it costs about £2.50 for a 250ml bottle - which is less good as I'm sure you'll agree this is rather on the expensive side. Basically the choice is yours - if you don;t like lemon curd smells then you really ought to stay away from this product. I've tried lots of other Origin
al Source products and I must say that other shower gels in the range, particularly the Lime give you a much greater 'kick' in the morning, leaving me feel much more awake and ready to tackle the day than this one. A disappointment for me, but I'm sure many of you out there will like it.

- 12/05/01 Funny, isn't it?! I loved this sample and thought it was zingy and natural smelling, just then kind of thing I'd want to use, and really disliked the lime shower gel because it smells like starburst (Opal fruits!) |
