Advantages: Fantastic envigorating smell, natural ingredients, vegan

Disadvantages: Quite expensive, may be too overpowering for some

You may be wondering what I’m doing reviewing a shower gel. No - they haven’t made a movie of it, I just felt like randomly switching my focus and taking a break from films. I also turned it into a little swap deal with Charluk (you are allowed to mention other people on here aren’t you?) - so whilst I review this shower gel, she’s done a film review!

This seemed like the most obvious thing for me to review, as it’s my favourite shower gel ever! How sad is that, I have a favourite shower gel...

A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND…

Original Source make a range of bath products, including shower gels, bath foams, shampoos, conditioners and hand wash, and their key selling point is their natural ingredients. As you would guess from the name “original source”, their products contain natural flavourings and fragrances, including what they call “natural essential oils.” The philosophy of this is that when using Original Source, you get a totally organic experience, which is therefore more refreshing and zingy.

Some other powerful flavours of shower gel include Pure Lime; Lemon and Tea Tree, Lavender and Tea Tree (they do like their tea trees) and the new flavour, Ylang and Neroli (whatever that is).

FIRST IMPRESSIONS…

My 250ml bottle of Original Source Mint and Tea Tree Shower Gel has quite a funky design - narrow at the top, getting wider towards the base, and it kind of stands upside down with the nozzle at the bottom, as more and more shower gels seem to be doing these days (so that when it’s nearly empty, I don’t have to wait for it to slowly dribble down to the top; it’ll already be there - ingenious!)

Along with the name, I’m being promised “The Ultimate Wake Up Call” - we shall soon see. The gel is a nice shade of dark green and looks satisfyingly gloopy when I tip it upside down!

IN THE SHOWER…

As I squeeze the gel into my hands and begin to massage it into my body, the smell comes off straight away. The shower fills up with the nose-stingingly pungent aroma of mint! Perhaps their claim to be the ultimate wake up call wasn’t such an exaggeration after all!

When you rub it in, Original Source doesn’t really create lots of bubbles; it just sort of coats your skin with slime, in the nicest possible way! I suppose if you’re looking for a shower gel to be absorbed into your skin and moisturise you, this isn’t the best option. But if you’re looking for something that smells nice and wakes you up, you’ve come to the right place!

Due to the concentrated natural power of Original Source, a little goes a long way. You could use great big handfuls at a time, and I’m sure you’d have a lovely time, but you might do your skin some damage! I have heard/read reports of guys using Original Source and finding their crown jewels stinging afterwards - you’ll be glad to hear I have never experienced this problem, although I can see where they’re coming from!

AFTERWARDS…

To be honest, for such an amazing nasal experience in the shower, the after-effects are a little disappointing. It doesn’t really leave much of a smell on you for the rest of the day (although unless you want to go round smelling like a polo this isn’t too distressing). However, you may feel that if you spend your cash on a shower gel with a nice smell, you want to get your money’ worth throughout the day!

LET’S TALK BUSINESS…

Original Source has always been a fairly pricey range. For my 250ml bottle, I think I paid £1.99 (that’s 79.6p per 100ml, folks), although as with anything, if you shop around and find it on offer (as it quite often is in Superdrug) you will reap the rewards. You can get the shower gel in little 40ml travel-size bottles, so these might be an idea if you just want to try it and see, or maybe if you’re really small.

However, due to the powerful nature of its natural ingredients, a little goes a long way and it doesn’t end up that expensive considering how long a bottle could last you.

GET THIS REVIEW OVER WITH…

Overall, I do love this shower gel: it’s just so fresh, invigorating and a unique experience - no other shower gel that I’ve tried, including the other Original Source flavours, can match this for sheer shower power.

As if that wasn’t enough, Original Source maintains that it is totally vegan and not tested on animals! Cowabunga!

I used to like the Orange, then they stopped making it, the Lime is good too though. Great review, good to see you trying new subjects :-)
