Advantages: Smells nice | moisturises legs beautifully | Slows hair re-growth (eventually)

Disadvantages: Takes Eight Weeks To Reach Full Potential

I hate hair removal, it's either messy, painful, time-consuming or a mixture of all three. I'll therefore do anything I can to cut down the time that I need spend doing this horrible task, and was delighted to find this Silkymit 3 in 1 lotion on the shelves of my local "Savers" right next to the Silkymit hair removal gloves that I've been using for the last few years. As it was only 99p for 125ml I picked up three bottles and couldn't wait to start reducing my hair growth.

---A bit about my hairy legs---

The hair on my legs seems to grow really fast, while some people can go a couple of days between shaving (or using Mitts), I will be stubbly within 12 hours. This is a real pain, as I need to remove the hair every morning (and twice a day if it's a special evening). Even when I use creams, epilators or wax I have stubble by the next day, this is the main reason that I'm so desperate to reduce the hair growth.

---The Lotion's Claims---

The bottle in front of me tells me that lotion will have three main effects on my legs:

* Weaken, Delay and Lighten Hair Growth
* Improve Skin Radiance & Tone
* Soften, Moisturise & Soothe

Further information on the back tells me that most testers experienced improved skin tone and radiance within 24 hours and finer, lighter and slower re-growth after 8 weeks, so this is not going to be a quick fix, and the rest of the review will be staggered over the 8 weeks that it should take to experience the slower growth.

The instructions also say that this should be applied twice a day and always after using the Silkymit Hair Remover for Legs or the Silkymit Hair Remover for Face, wow so it will work on my face too.

---The "Active" Ingredients---

Xyleine - This is a papaya extract, that has been proved effective at minimising hair growth in clinical trials.

Lemon - This gives the lotion a wonderful smell as well as soothing and cooling the skin.

Olive Leaf - Helps encourage circulation, I assume this means it will make your skin more radiant.

Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera nourishes and softens the skin as well as soothing minor irritations.

Camomile - Camomile is renowned for its soothing properties and again will soothe irritated skin.

---Day One---

After sandpapering my legs as usual, I reached for my new lotion opened it and squeezed some onto my hand. What faced me was a not particularly pleasant looking off-white cream, that was quite thick (thicker than baby lotion), and smelt wonderful. The smell was very citrusy and almost tropical (not surprising considering the lemon and papaya in it). I then began to massage it onto my legs and OUCH, it stung, although this only lasted for a few seconds, it wasn't exactly the soothing feel I was expecting.

Note to self : Next time wait a few minutes before applying.

The second application went a little better, and I discovered that a little definitely goes a long way. I only needed a blob the size of a 5p for each leg, and it was easily absorbed leaving my legs feeling very well moisturised without any greasiness.

---Day Two---

Before I sandpapered my legs on the second morning, I had a good look and feel and found that under the stubble the skin felt extremely soft and was in better condition than it had been for a long time. So it appears as if the claim of improved softness and radiance in 24 hours was indeed true. Of course, hair growth hadn't actually reduced any and I still needed to remove the stubble, which I did and then waited 10 minutes before applying the lotion.

This time there was no stinging, so I would suggest that it's a good idea to wait for at least the 10 minutes after hair removal to avoid discomfort. This time I decided to see what my husband thought about my new, soft legs, and I must say he was very impressed, maybe a little too impressed for that time of the morning.

---Week Two---

My legs are continuing to feel smooth and moisturised after using the lotion, and I think I'm noticing a little less hair growth. This is quite patchy at the moment, but there are areas where there is very little stubble even 24 hours after hair removal. You know I really am beginning to think that this might just work.

---Week Four---

The stubble on my legs is definitely starting to take longer to come through and my legs are still wonderfully soft. Instead of needing to remove hair on a daily basis I can occasionally go two days, and the re-growth is softer and less noticeable.

---Week Eight---

The magic eight weeks are up and it's time to decide whether this lotion has lived up to the claims. And the answer is yes, my legs are soft and smooth after applying and instead of needing to remove the hair everyday, I can get away with every three days as the re-growth is a lot finer and my legs are still silky smooth even after a whole day.

---Price and Availability---

I bought this lotion in Savers for 99p a bottle, but it does seem to be hit and miss as to whether they stock it. I would therefore suggest stocking up if you see it on the shelves.

---My Final Opinion---

I was a little sceptical about this lotion working, after all it is extremely cheap, but my fears were in vain. Although it's not the most pleasant looking lotion, it not only smells divine, but also moisturised my legs beautifully. This in itself would have meant it was worth the money spent, but as a bonus it has actually slowed down the hair growth noticeably. Of course I'm going to need to keep using the lotion to keep the effect going, but I would still use it anyway with how nice it makes my legs feel.

My own recommendation would be that if you see this on the shelves then grab it quick, if only because it works wonderfully as a simple lotion for soothing and moisturising your legs. But if you keep using it twice a day for the eight weeks, you might just find (as I did) that you won't need to reach for the razor (or whatever hair removal method you use) quite so often.

Summary: Cheap body lotion with an added effect

I have legs like a Turkish taxi driver's forearms. I will definitely be trying this! Good read, not too long but gives plenty of info.

Cheers

Sweary.
