As a HUGE Palmers fan, I opted for this Body Gloss in the hope that it would give me a light shimmer whilst nourishing and caring for my skin. Though not an 'everyday' product, Palmers have created a great little beauty item with this Body Gloss. It's perfect for adding a gleam to limbs and collar bones. I'd definitely recommend using this product on holiday in the evening to add a sheen and shimmer to your naturally tanned skin. I bought this tube for around £4 online for 125g, though multipack varieties are available which reduce the individual cost. PACKAGING The tube itself is a pearlescent white with blue touches. The text is brown to highlight the cocoa butter formula. It is neither the most stylish, not the most hideous packaging in the world though I would say the tube is quite outdated. I don't particularly mind as I'm not displaying the product to the world, though of course an attractive product would make it more desirable. The tube is easy to squeeze, and with the lid at the base of the tube, the product comes out quickly and is never a struggle - even at the very last squeeze. THE GLOSS Palmers Body Gloss smells divine, being an extension of their classic Cocoa Butter Formula collection of products. The gloss has more of a rich, creamy texture than glossy which adds to it's over feel of complete nourishment on the skin. The gloss is a pearlescent colour and rubs easily into skin leaving a light, shimmery sheen in it's place. It rubs in easily and quickly and feels light and moisturising on the skin! Perfect for limbs, shoulders & collar bones. A great little buy making my skin look shimmery and sheen-y and feel more nourished. * Don't wear over fake tan (it rubs off the tan) * Use sparingly * I would avoid using it all over the face as it looks too shimmery especially in camera snaps!
I was given this product and thought I'd never use it, however found that it really is great in giving some sheen to legs and arms! The packaging is pretty simple, white with a blue background - nothing too special, but not terrible either. The product is always - I think! - in a squeezy tube, so it is a good control as to how much product comes out, which I found great! The product comes out as a creamy gloss and has a white, 'pearl' sheen too it - hence it's a body gloss! It rubs in easily and is quite liquid-y in texture, which makes this product feel a little greasy at first. However, after a leaving it to sink in it, it feels nice and smooth. The smell of the product is quite sickly and, unfortunately, not to my taste, however isn't completely unpleasant. It has a certain smell of cocoa, but I also found that it smell a bit 'musty' - not great really for a night out! This product does what it says, leaves skin smooth and soft and also illuminates! However, if you use too much it can be a bit overbearing. As this gloss is packed with shimmer, it can make you look more like a disco ball than Goddess if you aren't careful with how much you use! This can also be a pain as it gets all over your hands when you're rubbing it in, so you end up with very sparkly fingers and palms too. Overall this is a decent product that does what it says!
I like all palmers cocoa butter formula products. I bought this as there was an offer on in Boots and I thought I would give it a go. I don't like fake tan so this seemed ideal for me as it promises to illuminate your skin as well as moisturise. As with all Palmers formula's the shimmer contains cocoa butter and vitamin E to moisturise. It comes in a tube which contains 125ml of product. When it comes out of the tube you get the distinct Palmers smell, which I would describe as a mixture of chocolate and vanilla. I only use this on my arms and sometimes my legs if I have a skirt or dress on. You only need a small amount as it is very thick and if you use to much it takes a long time to absorb. I would recommend leaving it a good fifteen minutes or so before getting dressed as I made the mistake of getting dressed too quickly and it left shimmering particles all over my black top. I would describe the shimmer as subtle, it gives skin a healthy glow. It looks really good with a suntan as it enhances the colour. My skin felt soft and smooth for the whole night afterwards. My only complaint was that it has such a powerful smell it can clash with your perfume. Overall though this is a good product for a reasonable price. It's a great alternative to bronzing powder.
I have been a big fan of Palmers Cococa Butter for years and so I thought I'd try the Body Gloss when it came out. Like all the Cocoa Butter range it is very rich and thick so it doesn't spread easily. However with persistence it blends in eventually leaving you with beautifully soft skin. This lasts all day and leaves your skin with a lovely warm buttery smell. As for the 'gloss' it isn't the best. If you are after more of a 'glow' than sparkle then it works a treat. I use it to highlight certain areas of my body: my shoulders, collar bone and cleavage! If you're looking for a strong shimmer then this isn't the right product for you. However, if you use a lot it does gradually build up and with the cheap price tag you could argue it would be better to do that than splash out on something like Estee Lauder's shimmer lotion. (Works brilliantly but has a £27 price tag!) The good thing about this product is it leaves a gentle glow which can work during the day as well as at night. It's a nice product, just with the wrong label. I wouldn't describe it as 'gloss' or 'shimmer', probably just highlighter! As for the moisturising qualities, like all the Palmers products, they are great. It leaves you with beautiful supple skin which lasts all day.
I have been looking for a lotion that leaves a shimmer on your skin for ages and the only things I could find where ones with glitter in. I didn't want that as i thought they'd look a bit tacky. A friend of mine suggested Palmers Cocoa Butter Body Gloss Lotion and I found some on ebay which I ordered although I thought it was quite expensive for a moisturiser. I have used this lotion several times now and I love the smell and the shimmer it leaves. It is very subtle but makes you look glowing when the light catches it. The lotion is a little greasy and does take a while to dry. The one major problem I have found is that it gets all over your clothes. When I have worn it with black clothes and they have rubbed against my skin it leaves a noticable residue on your clothes. It looks as bad as deoderant marks.
I have always loved the smell of anything chocolate like and remember the first time I spotted a bottle of palmers cocoa butter on my mums dressing table as a child, someone had bought her some back from America. I remember clearly the delight when I opened the lid and that wonderful smelled filled my nose and I have been hooked every since. I was delighted when one day I noticed the palmers body gloss in boots and it was in my basket quicker than a cat up a tree and I was desperate to get home and cover my body and find my inner and outer J-Lo glow!. ====Palmer's ===== Palmer's as a skin care brand was actually developed in 1840 and was one of Americas first skin care brands but it was until it was distributed in Australia in 1997 that it became the cult beauty product that it is today. The brand now as many different products including the original cocoa butter, Olive butter, Shea butter and Aloe vera but for the purposes of this review I am concentrating on the Body Gloss with Vitamin E. ==== Packaging ==== Palmer's cocoa butter products all have the similar look of a white bottle or tube and the famous orange and brown labeling but the Body Gloss comes in tube but it has an iridescent shimmer to it and to show the result that you will get when you use it. ==== The product ==== Palmer's body Gloss contains 100% pure Cocoa butter which is then enriched with Vitamin E to provide you with smooth and soft skin, its also worth noting that cocoa butter melts at room temperature and this allows the cream to sink into your skin. The product has a flip lid and the cream dispenses out from a small hol so that you can not really squeeze too much out. You can use this product anywhere on your body and is claims to offer a deep radiant glow. ==== Scent ==== As the scent of Palmers is so well known I thought that it deserved a place of it's own!. Well I love the smell but I know from experience that its a bit like marmite and you either love or hate it. the body gloss does have the familiar scent but it is not as strong and while each persons skin reacts differently to scents I personally find that the scent does not linger on. ==== Results ==== While I do like to use a moisturiser after a shower or bath as the skin absorbs it better I actually found that it was better to allow my skin to dry slightly before applying the product. When the product comes out of the tube you can see the shimmer in it and the base colour is cream with the gold shimmer running through, when you actually put it in your palms and rub them together the really gold shimmer colour comes through and the cream vanishes. I found that the product was easy to apply and the texture of the cream was quite thick. I did notice that if I applied it to wet skin the product turned white and was quite hard to rub in so I would recommend letting you skin dry slightly before applying. It did feel nice on my skin and it certainly made my skin smooth and soft, as far as the shimmer goes I did find that in certain lights you could really see it but it was not an obvious glow and more of a subtle shimmer, it was not a deep glow which is what the product says that it gives. it did last all night long and didn't fade at all and its also worth noting that it didn't rub off on my clothes. ==== How to Use it ==== You can apply this all over the body however after using it I thought that it would be helpful for the purpose of this review if I described how I used the product myself. ==== Legs ==== While I do like to use a moisturiser after a shower or bath as the skin absorbs it better I actually found that it was better to allow my skin to dry slightly before applying the product I tend to start from the bottom of my body and work my way up, I start by applying a ten pence piece size and this covers my legs from toes to the top of my thighs. apply the product on your palms and rub together and then using sweeping motions glide the cream from your feet all the way up to your thighs. ==== Torso === If you are only using as a shimmer you may just want to do your arms and the top half of your chest but as its a moisturiser and a shimmer I tend to put it all over and gain suing sweeping motions glide the cream all the way up to your arms. ==== Arms ==== Again using sweeping motions cover your arm and try to glide the cream and not rub to hard as this can make it disappear into your skin and leave you smooth but with no shimmer. ==== Face ==== While I know that this product is not made for your face I have used it on my face and they way I use it is to rub a tiny amount in with my normal face moisturiser and this gives just a healthy glow before applying your makeup. ==== Re Apply ==== This is what I do if I want a stronger shimmer or to highlight certain areas. after the first application I wait until it has slightly dried on my skin and them go over just certain areas and only use a small amount, I add a little more to my shoulders and also my decolletage and I find that this second application is what give it a better overall look. Because you have applied it into your palms a few times you will have to wash them as my hands had more shimmer than a christmas tree! ==== My Conclusion ==== I think that it is a great body moisturiser and will give you that extra glow on a night out or even through the day, however if you really want a deeper colour or shimmer than I would suggest trying something else. For the price I think that its a brilliant body moisturiser with a soft and subtle shimmer. ==== Cost and Availability ==== Palmer's many product can be purchased in many chemists, departments stores and some supermarkets and cost approx £ 4.00 for the 125g tube.
I have been using palmer cocoa butter for ever, It seems to help ease the unslightly scars that I seem to get. When I saw the body gloss I though that would be useful to go on holiday with as the big bottle didnt fit in my wash bag. In anycase i thought that i better test this new body gloss out before leaving home and I was expecting a mere shimmer but i looked like a little slimey fairy with way to much fairy dust stuck to her. The gloss seem to be slippery and felt slimey on the skin and stupidly i had put it on my face so that made matters worse as i spent most of the day glowing as i couldnt seem to get all the lotion washed off before starting work. I dont know whether this might of been because the body gloss is meant to show off beautifully tanned skin as it would be perfect for that but not on a pasty english rose like me
As a big fan of the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula in general, I liked the idea of having a body lotion with a hint of shimmer in it for special occasions. This seemed like a great idea, especially as I love using the original body lotion (see previous review for more details on that). ***The Body Gloss*** Like the original body lotion, this is yellow, but the addition of the gloss makes it a lot more shimmery. It is pretty easy to rub into the skin, although the shimmer wasn't immediately obvious after I had done so. It is definitely there though as my fingers had a lot of glittery residue on them after applying it! As with the original, you can smell the cocoa butter but the smell isn't quite as intense. ***The Results*** Once it had fully soaked in, there was quite a good hint of glitter. It was far more obvious in some areas than others, and on some areas it was almost invisible even under good lighting. This gave quite a strange effect as it looked like I had only applied glitter to random small areas, when in fact I had applied it quite liberally across my entire shoulders, chest and the tops of my arms. I would advise applying it more subtly than I did as you are quite likely to end up with vast patches of glitter if you are unlucky.
I'm definitely a cocoa butter lover. I love the normal Palmers cocoa butter formula and I also use the concentrate product. So when I saw this new version of my favourite product I instantly brought it. I was also off on hoiday soon afterwards, so I wanted something that would help maximise the look of my tan. Unfortunately I was left disappointed. The body gloss comes in a squeezy tube and looks lovely when it comes out. It is of a light brown shimmery colour and looks very promising. However, this is where it ends. When you put it on it is super THICK, its an absolute nightmare to rub in and just seems to end up smearing across your body. This would be fine if it wasn't almost silver in colour! You end up with hands covered in a silver coloured oily mess and your body feeling greasy and coated in what I can only imagine smothering yourself in lard would feel like. Rather than maximising my tan, I just looked slightly odd, like I'd gone a bit crazy on the body shimmer! I was very disappointed as I really thought this product would be great, however it was a real let down...and at pretty much £5 a tube, I'd suggest just investing the money in a nice bronzer instead.
First Impressions Now I am a huge fan Palmer's regular cocoa butter body lotion. I found that the scent, texture and results were fantastic. Therefore when I discovered this body gloss sitting on the shelf slap bang next to my usual product, it seemed buying it was a natural transition. My first impression of it was one of trust. Since I adored the body lotion I was ale to sub-consciously transfer my faith to this one as well. This was no doubt heightened by the similarities in packaging with the traditional and prestigious looking Palmer's emblem proudly displayed. In general the packaging is aesthetically pleasing. It is a tube form as opposed to a bottle and this gives a modern air, making me at least think that the product was a bit high-tech and I conveniently forgot what a pain it is tto allow the last of the toothpaste in the tube to reach fresh air. The swirl of stars is incredibly pretty and it really does get you enthused by the gloss, you get all of these mental images of sparkle and glitter etc. The product is described as being:' Enriched with vitamin E, in a soothing emollient base. Heals and softens rough, dry skin. Smoothes marks. Tones skin. An excellent all over the body moisturizer and after tanning butter. Ideal for hands, elbows and knees.' The presence of a vitamin E which is regarded as being God-like for skin healing and renewal. In addition a promise to tone, heal, intensively moisturise and smooth scars gave me the impression that skin would look fantastic I was therefore highly excited to find this and bought it with much enthusiasm. Appearance I used the body gloss alone as a substitute for my normal lotion. Now I have been used to the regular Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion which is a translucent yellowy colour. Consequently I was a bit shocked when I squeezed the tube to reveal a silvery white iridescent gloop that was actually quite opaque. I was applying it in summer to tanned skin and I was therefore a bit worried that the paleness of the lotion might undermine all of my tanning efforts but reassured by the packaging's claim of an excellent after-tanning butter I gave it a chance nonetheless. Scent Another big let-down was the scent of the lotion. Instead of smelling rich and chocolately as I expected it smelt quite synthetic and only very faintly of chocolate. The smell isn't particularly unpleasant but neither is it a desirable thing to have scenting your skin. Application and Results The consistency of the lotion is thick and viscous and it is fairly difficult to apply the product evenly. An excess of product accumulates in one area, whilst leaving other areas bare. This leaves an overall streaky appearance which is as painful to look at as the process of application. It is also not readily absorbed by the skin and rather just sits on the surface. This does mean that a little product goes a long way but it is time-consuming to rub in and will never be able to quench dry skin. On using the product alone I was disappointed to not be left with a deep glow but instead, as I feared, pale and a little bit ghostly. The sparkle inside the lotion does make you glow but not in the healthy, look-at me I have spend my life exercising in the fresh air before having a body-wrap, sort of way but instead in an ethereal manner which would be great for fancy dress but doesn't really translate into real life. The case is none the clearer than on the hands which according to promises should be fine refuse to absorb the gloss and get coated to the extent that it appears silver gloves are being worn. However the product is not a complete loss. I have found that mixing half the tube with three quarters of a tube of regular lotion creates a wonderful body lotion with a subtle, natural looking shimmer. However this is a pretty pricy option and quite fiddly to do. Value for Money A tube of gloss costs about £4.19 from Superdrug and is about the same price in Boots. However it is worth watching out for offers, especially in Superdrug where they tend to knock off a pound for fun every so often. However even on offer it is quite pricy with a tube lasting only a month (although it might be longer if half the product didn't hide inside the tube where it will only appear in vast quantities splattered across walls when the tube is twisted ferociously.) Sum-up This gloss is a great idea but not the best out there. Although it promises great results, I was left disappointed by these as the reality of the situation was a marathon away from where I expected. Too many compromises are needed before satisfaction can be gained and although mixing of products can yield good results as a consumer I feel I should not really have to make the effort. I would recommend a Lush Glitter-bug any day which is in my opinion far superior. However for the brave and patient people out there it might be worth a shot, but don't get your hopes up.
This is a really lovely rich moisturiser with a lovely gloss finish. It costs around £4.00 and lasts for ages. Packaging- This is packaged in a similar way to most Palmer Cocoa Butter products and is a fairly large tube at 125g/4.4oz It has a handy flip lid so no fiddly screw top here. Product itself - As a said in the advantages this smells glorious - if you like the smell of other Palmer Cocoa Butter products, its a lovely creamy chocolatey smell which I love. The gloss itself is an ivory colour and quite a rich consistancy. A little goes a long way and leaves a sheen rather than full on glitter effect, it is maybe a little harder to rub in than some moisturising lotions but feels nice. After using this your skin is really soft and healthy looking, it enhances a tan - natural or fake, and is a lovely highlighter for shins, collar bones, shoulders and arms but as I said a little goes a long way. All in all this is a lovely product and I highly recommend it.
This rich luxurious cream illuminates skin with a subtle shimmer / Pure Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E and other rich emollients provide just the right amount of moisture, leaving your skin soft and smooth /
