Advantages: Scent, product lasts a long time, beautiful soft skin

Disadvantages: Quite greasy, not the most appealing of bottles

I'm massively into my beauty and skincare products but surprisingly have never been one for body moisturisers. Mainly because I have been very lucky that my skin is soft and I never have suffered from overly dry skin. However since getting pregnant I have found that I have developed a number of dry patches of skin on various parts of my body. It was recommended from friends that I try Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula which not only moisturises skin it smoothes marks and one friend even claimed that it " helps minimise stretch marks", so I decided to give this product a go.

***Packaging***

The packaging is not the most attractive. This is a white plastic bottle with a flip top lid. The bottle is not at all see through therefore it is difficult to judge how much product is left in the bottle.

I bought this in the 350ml size and feel that the bottle is quite bulky therefore not the best of products to travel with. The product also comes in a 200ml size which is smaller but the rounded shape of the bottle makes it a less practical bottle to pop in a travel bag.

The Palmers branding is in a bright orange oval in the centre of the bottle. The colours on the bottle are not the most attractive .

The product is dispensed through a hole in the top of the bottle. This is quite small which helps to ensure not too much product is squeezed out of the bottle. However because the product is quite thick it does mean that the product doesn't easily come out of the bottle.

***Price***

I bought this product in Asda and for a 350ml bottle this cost me £4.29. I found that this was very good value for money for the amount of moisturises that is in the bottle and the product seems to last a long time. I have been using this product daily for a month now and I am still only half of the way through the bottle and I feel that I have been applying quite liberally.

***Product & Application***

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula is described on the front of the bottle as a body lotion which helps to sooth marks and tone skin and contains vitamin.

The description on the back of the packaging states that: "Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula SPF 15 Body Lotion moisturises and nurtures your skin daily. This unique formula combines the ultra moisturising properties of 100% pure Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E. This broad spectrum coverage helps protect skin against damage cause by sun exposure and prevents future signs of aging. This moisturising non greasy lotion is ideal for everyday use."

There is no mention on the bottle that this product is for sensitive skin therefore those with more sensitive skin may be better suited to a different product.

The bottle does state that Palmers is against animal tested and therefore this product is not tested on animals.

As soon as you open the lid you can smell the moisturiser. It has a very strong cocoa scent very much like chocolate. I think this is a gorgeous scent but it is quite sickly. I apply this product at night after bathing however if you apply this in the morning you may find that it over powers perfume as the scent is quite strong and sweet.

The moisturiser itself is a light yellow creamy colour. When this is squirted into your hand the consistency is very thick and is almost quite jelly like in its texture.
The product easily rubs into skin as it is very greasy. A 50p piece size of product is enough to use on two legs and apply quite liberally. I found this very surprising as this amount of other moisturisers I have used would only ever cover one leg.

Once I had applied this moisturiser all over my body I felt this was slightly greasy and that the product did not live up to claims that it was a non- greasy formula. The product does absorb into skin quite quickly and after around 5 minutes the greasy feeling disappears and I then will get dressed as my skin feels dry.

***Results***

After the first use of this product my skin smelt gorgeous and felt quite soft so immediately I noticed a difference in the feel of my skin. After around 5 days of using the product daily my skin looked and felt much softer and the dry patches on my skin had completely disappeared.

I have been using this product for around a month now. My skin looks a lot smoother and I noticed that some slight scars I had on my legs have faded and are less noticeable. All of the dry patches that I had have completely disappeared.

I have been using this product on my stomach to keep my bump (which can hardly be called a bump as it is still so small at 25 weeks) soft and hopefully keep stretch marks at bay. So far I have no red marks on my bump however my mother and grandmother did not get stretch marks during their pregnancy so I can't really comment on the effectiveness of Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch marks.

This product is quite a greasy product and therefore offers a deep moisturising effect so it is suited to those with particularly dry skin. For those with more greasy skin I would imagine this product would still be effective however might moisturise the skin a little too much

***Overall***

This is a great moisturiser which is great for dry skin and I found the effects of the product were noticeable within only a few uses as my skin felt and looked a lot smoother and softer. The moisturiser smells gorgeous as it is sweet and chocolately, but for those that intend to use this product in the morning apply sparingly if you want to wear perfume as the scent is quite overpowering.

For the money this is a very good value effective moisturiser which I will definitely continue to use and replace once the current bottle has ran out.

On the theory of stretch marks I am not a believer that this product stops you getting them even though I haven't developed any ....... Yet!! I think this is down to individuals genes and no amount of product is going to stop you from getting them.

In terms of smoothing marks I do feel that some marks I had on my skin have faded but I think this is because my skin is a lot soft after using Palmers Cocoa Butter and the same would have probably occurred if I had used another brand of moisturiser.

Summary: A lower priced moisturiser that smells great with above average results
