Advantages: Delicious scent, soft skin, cheap, easy to apply
Disadvantages: Not great at reducing scars, some may dislike the chocolate scent
First Impressions
I have fairly dry skin which is in need of a lot of cherishment. I also have a few faint scars and a love for chocolate so when I saw this product advertised in a magazine buying it seemed perfectly natural. The body lotion is made by Palmers, which seems to be a pretty credible name in the beauty industry. The packaging of the product reflects his in that it is fairly tradition and although some may call it dull to me it just emphasises that the product is created by a well-established name, full of experts. The pump design of the bottle is also a bonus point. It makes initial application easier than having to fuss around and pickup and shake the bottle etc, but near to end of the bottle it does stop becoming effective.
Application and Effects
The lotion’s formula of cocoa butter enriched with vitamin E promises to ‘soften, smooth and relieve dry skin, in addition to smoothing marks and toning. So basically it states it does absolutely everything a moisturiser could do, which to me is actually pretty awesome. I have found that the best time to apply the product is a few minutes after your shower when your skin is still slightly damp. This way the moisture on your skin gets trapped underneath the lotion, leading to deeper penetration of nourishment. I have found that applying a small blob to each limb and a line of lotion from the top of the neck down to the base of the stomach provides enough the cover the entire body. Massage the blobs in with circular movements to ensure even coverage and concentrate the product on dry areas such as the elbows and knees. The yellow colour of the cream makes it easy to track its progress of absorption by the skin, yet does not tint the skin in any way. The lotion is quick absorbing and so not time consuming to apply and so can be applied in the morning. I found the smell to be completely wonderful. In the bottle only a faint chocolate-esque smell can be sensed but as the product is warmed by body heat a stronger aroma is released which makes the skin smell delicious and good enough to eat (although the website warns against this). Skin is left feeling soft, silky and completely nourished deep down in the dermis thanks to the cocoa butter formula melting right into the skin and so leaving no greasy after-feel This also means that the effects are long-lasting, especially the scent. However although the product is wonderful in every other respect I am not so sure about its effect on scars. The vitamin E should theoretically help them heal by reducing the collagen production, yet I have read that new studies suggest that Vitamin E actually has little effect on scars. However the lotion is pretty much perfect in every other way and if used in addition to a concentrated specialist scar product any marks would be obliterated. Also another seemingly trivial thing to remember is that if you for any reason give up chocolate (mad I know)the lingering scent of chocolate will drive you and the chocolate deprived near you completely up the wall as our nose becomes more sensitive to the smell the less chocolate you consume. Therefore I recommend that the lotion be used all year bar during lent.
Value for Money
A 400ml/13.5 fl. Oz. bottle costs in the region of £4.00 from Superdrug, Boots and other similar stores. There are usually special offers on the brand throughout the especially in Superdrug where currently you can save a third off the product. For a buy one get one free offer I recommend also buying the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Gloss (£4.19) and mixing a small amount of this into the lotion bottle to give a light shimmer and make the already soft and scented skin even more alluring. The body lotion is in my opinion great value for money, especially when on offer and I recommend stocking up in these times to ensure there never comes a tragic event where you run out (gasps in panic at the very thought.)
Sum-Up
This is the most superior moisturiser I have ever found. It pretty much delivers everything I want in a moisturiser and more than any other I have ever tried before. Unless you really hate chocolate I would say that the product is suitable for anyone and everyone and will be loved by all.
Summary: The BEST lotion ever!

- 21/10/07 Interesting idea. Bit strange though if you have to walk around smelling like chocolate. Must tempt the chocoholics around you. |

- 20/10/07 I used some of this on sunburn in the summer and it seemed to work really well. |
