Advantages: does exactly what it says on the tin
Disadvantages: none
Well while I await the ever growing list of suggestions to be processed by our friends on dooyoo in order to scratch that review writing itch I decided it would be a nice change to write about something other than books, and the need to purchase a new moisturiser seemed a good opportunity to get that itch scratched.
I am lucky in that other than a brief spell of suffering from exzema as a kid and a dry patch on one arm my skin is more or less 'normal' and generally in decent condition so for me buying a good moisturiser is a complete luxury item, hence more often than not I grab the cheapest one on the shelf and it lasts for months, but recently I decided it was time to splash out and treat my skin to a new regime of high quality products.
After a recommendation from my sister Palmers Cocoa Butter seemed a good option for the moisturiser, so when wandering around Tescos killing time between my morning swim and the need to get to work I picked up a bottle. Checking that I could live with the smell and trying to ignore that little voice in my head that tells me not to waste money on expensive products I bought it.
The bottle is an unusual shape, with a rounded main body and a tapering neck it looks like it should be round but is in fact flat and contains 250ml of product. The lid is one of the 'rocker' types, you push down on one side and the other side pops up allowing the product to be easily dispensed.
The moisturiser itself is a yellowish coloured thick cream, though not so thick that it is difficult to get out of the bottle, the label proclaims it to be fragrance free so the smell is a simple fresh one presumably of cocoa butter. I like it alot, as though it isnt a strong smell it does linger slightly, though not noticeably unless you are looking for it. I havent used it on my face though Im sure if I did it would work just as well as it does everywhere else, but given I currently look like Ive been attacked by a grater Im avoiding putting anything on there other for the moment though when its healed I will be doing, if for no other reason than to see if its claims of helping to smooth out marks is true.
It does work exactly how it should for a moisturiser, I can apply it after swimming and my skin still feels soft when Im getting home from work in the evening. As far as rubbing it in goes, I tend to not use a large amount as with this a little does go along way, being a thick rich cream it can take a while to rub on to your skin but soon sinks in leaving no appreciable residue unlike some cheaper brands.
Some of the other claims on the label are that it smoothes marks and tones skin, I wouldnt like to say if it achieves either of these since I dont think I have used it for long enough for any effect on marks but for me at least I would say my skin does feel more toned, though I believe that is not just down to the moisturiser, healthier eating, and exersize I think will also have played a part.
For those with sensitive skin there is no mention of it being hypoallergenic so I would say becareful when you first use it, further information might be avaliable on their website.
Palmers also tell you that the product is not tested on animals which is to be commended and that once opened it should be used within 12 months. I paid around £2.50 for this bottle and I would say that this is pretty good value as I suspect it will last for quite some time, though costs far more than the usual store brands I use.
Summary: Palmers, my new favourite moisturiser
