Advantages: Well priced, super duper moisturising properties, great scent
Disadvantages: Seems to have lots of chemicals in the ingredient list.
This review is for the above product but in a 250ml bottle which doesn't have a pump dispenser as the dooyoo picture does, instead, it has a flip-top and the product is squeezed out of the bottle.
I have seen Palmer's cocoa butter formula moisturising cream in the shops for as long as I can remember and only recently decided that I should buy some and give it a try. On the bottle it claims that it softens, smoothes and relieves dry skin. I suffer from particularly dry skin on my legs and have tried numerous creams, lotions and body butters in the quest for silky smooth pins. So far, nothing has quite cut the mustard (I haven't tried mustard on my legs though) and I hoped that Palmer's cocoa butter formula would live up to my expectations.
When I opened the bottle, I gave it a good sniff, as you do, and a delcious scent of chocolate wafted out mixed in with a bit of vanilla. It smelled lovely but not too sickly as some chocolate/vanilla scented products can. I squeezed a little of the cream onto my dry, parched leg and was surprised at the consistency of the cream, it is quite thick and sat on my leg in a nice line, much preferable to some creams that run off onto the carpet or bedclothes before you've had chance to rub it in! The cream is a pale yellow in colour.
Although the cream is rather thick, it rubs in well and goes a long way. I was pleased to see how well it absorbed into my skin and after a good old rub my legs weren't left feeling greasy or claggy. The scent of chocolate was much stronger after having rubbed the cream into my skin and I did feel that perhaps others around me would easily be able to smell this wafting around me. Not unpleasant to me but others may find it sickly, a matter of personal taste!
I applied this cream just before bed and was really happy with how smooth and soft my legs felt and also how less tight the skin on my legs felt. The next day, after having had a shower in the morning, cleaning the house and then trailing around a few shops, my legs still felt silky smooth to the touch, result! I was incredibly pleased with this as I don't necessarily want to be applying the cream in the morning as I prefer to do it at night to allow the cream to work its magic overnight and as I don't have time in the morning as I'm rushing off out to work.
I apply this cream now every other day or every couple of days and have noticed a huge difference in the condition of the skin on my legs. I do use it elswhere on my body and it's a great moisturiser. This particular product also contains vitamin E which will also contribute to lovely soft skin.
The ingredients are as follows:
Water, Cacao extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Petrolatum, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Coconut oil, Mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocoa seed butter, Palm oil, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-8 stearate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Benzyl Alcohol, Yello 5 colouring and Orange 4 colouring.
So, a heck of a lot of chemicals which makes me feel this may not be suitable for everyone's skin types. However, I do have quite sensitive skin on my legs and so far have had no trouble with this cream.
As well as being a lovely skin soother and softener, Palmer's formula is meant to even up skin tone and soften and blend unattractive marks and scars, help prevent and smooth stretch marks particularly in pregnancy and is also meant to be great to use after tanning. This is something I am yet to test the product for but when the time comes for babies and stretch marks I shall let you know!! It's certainly a product I would use on my bump throughout pregnancy when the time comes so watch this space (although you may be watching the space for a while!!)
This product also comes in fragrance free (but the fragrance is sooo yummy!) and SPF 15 varieties and comes in a range of sizes. For the 250ml bottle, I paid £2.73 in Asda and wasn't disappointed with that price given that the product works!! Hooray!!
Summary: Will be making this my staple moisturiser!
