Advantages: smells lovely, cleanses, refreshes senses

Disadvantages: the bottle can leak

Readers of my previous showergel reviews will know that I am extremely picky. It is simply not enough if the showergel of choice cleanses, it must do something more for my senses. It is for that reason that I have given up on soap bars a long time ago and started expirementing with various shower gels in order to find that small circle of tried and trusted "shower buddies".

As a preliminary note, the picture that Dooyoo included above is not the right one for this product. The pink bottle in the picture is called Palmolive Aroma Creme Comfort, not Exotic.

***The product***

Palmolive Aroma Crème “Exotic” is one of those products you can simply not miss – as the showergel comes in an oval bright yellow bottle with an orange top. You would be forgiven to mistake this for sun tanning lotion, as it just radiates that feel of summer. On the front of the bottle you will have the product description – written in pink lettering and decorated with an orange flower. On the back of the bottle you will discover that the bottle contains 250 ml of product. The bottle tells you that this showergel contains moisturising crème and pure essential oils of chamomile and sandalwood. It promises to make your skin feel soft and moisturised and to revitalise your senses.

***My experience***

As with all Palmolive bottles, the pop-up top is located in the middle and lifted very easily. You need to be careful, however, to close it firmly after you are done. This is especially the case if you are carrying the bottle to the gym or taking it onto vacation. I have had more than one occasion of accidental leakage. Not pleasant, if you find the product has invaded your entire collection of holiday clothes!

The first time I opened the bottle, I was amazed at how well the choice of packaging reflected the smell. You immediately think of summer holidays, of beach and sunshine. This is mainly because of the mix of ingredients in the bottle. One of the most apparent notes is a mild scent that resembles sun tanning lotion. This is then complemented by a very soft and fruity smell that smells like a fruit salad combination of pineapple, mango, peach and orange. In the background you may be able to detect the milder note of chamomile.

I squeezed some of the product onto my hand. It appeared to be white and was of a thick consistency, almost like a body moisturiser. You would, however, be disappointed if you would try to use it as a moisturiser, as it would merely make your body sticky.

Unlike some showergels, this product does not lather up very much. It produces some minor bubbles and leaves a very thin, hardly noticeable, lather on your skin. But the lack of lather does not detract from the greatness of the showering experience. As you massage the crème onto your skin, you will quickly notice how it develops a smooth and soft consistency that produces a lovely feeling when you rub it into yout skin. You can instantly feel how your skin is being moisturised by the ingredients. At the same time, the ingredients evoke that summer feeling in your brain and put you into a very positive frame of mind. Because the ingredients are mild and uplifting, you also instantly feel like you are not only cleansing your body, but your sould and your mind.

The shower crème washes off very easily. It is really up to you how much of the product you use, but I tend to open the bottle about three times and use about a pound-coin-sized amount each time. On average, a bottle will last 2-3 weeks.

The scent of the shower crème does not linger too long, after a couple of hours it will have disappeared completely. But the shower crème will leave you feeling clean and fresh for the rest of the day.

***Price and availability***

The shower crème is widely available in both chemists and supermarkets. I have seen it at Boots, Superdrug, Safeway/Morrisons, Tescos and Sainsbury’s. At Sainsbury’s a bottle currently sets you back £1.69, but I have seen this product priced as high as £1.99 elsewhere. Do look out for 2 for 1 deals – they tend to come around every few months.

***The verdict***

This shower crème is my close second favorite shower product after Original Source Tea Tree & Mint. I just love the smell of it and its moisturising and uplifting effects. There are no real downsides to the shower crème, apart from the minor problems that the bottle may cause if you are not careful when closing it. And it does not have the same “wake-up” effect as the Tea Trea & Mint showergel does. How do I choose between the two then? I simply pick the one on sale at the time.
