Advantages: Delicious aroma, works well to cleanse and moisturise my hands
Disadvantages: More expensive than other brands
I'm not terribly loyal to any one hand wash brand and tend to buy any that I know suit my sensitive skin which happen to be on special offer at the time. Unfortunately last week there were only brands on offer in Sainsbury's that I know definitely don't suit me so for the first time in a while I was forced to pay full price for whichever bottle of hand wash I eventually opted for.
I knew the cost issue was out of the window as soon as I saw the solitary bottle of Pears hand wash on the shelf, I've used this in the past and loved it but priced at £1.85 for a 250ml bottle it's rather more expensive than the other hand washes I tend to buy.
It's worth it though, oh yes it is! This hand wash has almost the same fragrance as the better known Pears bar soap, although it's nicer because the aroma from the hand wash seems to be less concentrated and a little sweeter perhaps. I can also very, very subtly detect a slight citrus aroma which comes through more while I am washing my hands with hot water although I can occasionally tell it's there when I sniff the hand wash straight from the bottle.
Although this is an extremely gentle hand wash, I find it does it's job admirably. I'm an obsessive hand washer anyway so the skin on my hands rarely becomes dirty enough to stretch the abilities of what ever soap or hand wash I am using. This week however I have taken advantage of some dry spells and done a little work in the garden so my hands have obviously become grubby, especially I've noticed around the base of my thumb where I've been pulling weeds and patting down the earth around my new seedlings.
Despite the fact that this hand wash is soap free I find it very cleansing, removing visible dirt on my skin and leaving my hands with that soft, smooth feeling that denotes a thorough washing. The scent left on my hands afterwards is a toned down version of the scent you first encounter when washing your hands, it lingers beautifully for a while before fading away completely to leave my hands smelling simply clean and fresh.
This hand wash produces only a small amount of lather as I wash my hands, although the few bubbles that do appear on my hands are robust and fairly luxurious in consistency. I do wish there were more of them, however.
After using this hand wash for around a week now I am impressed with how soft my hands feel; my skin feels supple and I have had absolutely no skin irritation whatsoever from using Pears.
I cannot recommend this hand wash highly enough. Granted, it's far more expensive than those hand washes you can buy in Poundland or any which are on special offer in any of the main supermarkets but then the quality of this one far surpasses those and it's an absolute pleasure to use.
Summary: An excellent hand wash from the Pears brand.
