Advantages: Gentle
Disadvantages: Bit pricey
Pears soap.
No I was never Miss Pears , too much of a raggamuffin.
I noticed an old pears soap advertisement and strongly remembered my mother occasionally buying this. I looked in Tesco and there is still pears soap available at the moment a 125g bar costs 65p it is usually 85p. So in for a bit of nostalgia and needing some soap I bought some...
It is quite expensive as a 125g bar imperial leather is 45p and 3 bars Nivea soap £1.25p
This soap is an oval shape and an amber translucent colour you can sort of see though it. I remember my mum bought her from the co-op and I have seen it in many other places selling soap products.
Pears soap is glycerine based; the ingredients are the same as 100 years ago suitable for oily skins.
Pears is a soft gentle soap suitable for children’s delicate skins. It has a light almost flowery smell to it clean and fresh.
This soap left my skin fresh and not tight and dry like some other soaps
Pears soap lathers well lots of bubbles. . The bar did last a longish time.
Pears soap has not been tested on animals. Humans have been using it now since 1789 when Andrew Pears first produced it. In 1917 Pears sold out to Lever brothers.
Pears soap was aimed at the posher clients then not everyday folk (mind you its still pricier than your everyday so-so soap.)
You may have seen those nostalgic turn of the century advertisements with cute children, those big old iron bath tubs. (Like the one I used to bathe in in front of the open fire in my childhood) puppies and bubbles. These adverts are available in a metal sign from www.boogaloo.com I am sure I have seen them as a paper poster too.
I remember as a child that there was a Miss Pears competition where mums dressed and spruced their little princesses up to become Miss Pears for the year (I was never entered too much of a ragamuffin my parents said). I am not 100% sure but I believe this competition no longer exists
I would recommend this soap for anyone who wants a gentle soap it’s a pleasant smell not over feminine or masculine. Thanks for reading
Summary: Gentle soap from the old days

- 09/03/06 I love the smell of Pears soap. I still buy it occasionally but I am too much of a Lush fan to buy it too often. Donna x |

- 02/03/06 I love Pears because it's see through and when I was a kid the concept of transparent soap was somewhat magical (don't ask I was just as batty then as I am now) and I also love it because my Granny always used it and makes me think of her!
Cheers
