Advantages: Nice smell. It lasts a good while

Disadvantages: Not as cheap as some bars of soap

Pears soap has got a lot of memories for me. I can remember it way back when I was a child. I only ever knew one person who used Pears soap. And that was my elderly Auntie. She always had a bar of Pears soap sitting by her kitchen sink. There was never a time when there wasn't a bar there. So, of course, I used to use this soap round hers. And that was the only time I ever used to wash with Pears soap, as nobody else I ever knew used Pears. So, as you can imagine, I have very fond memories of this particular soap, and always conjurs up happy memories of my childhood round my Aunties place.

The soap itself has actually been around since 1807, nearly 200 years. The inventor of this soap is a man aptly named Andrew Pears. On the back of the box it states that natural oils and pure glycerine are combined with the delicate fragrance of rosemary, cedar and thyme.

The orangey, browny coloured soap comes in a white box with the bar of soap on the front. The price I paid in Tesco's for it was £0.89p for a 125g bar. I know this isn't as cheap as some bars, but if you look at the size of it, you can understand why.

It is somwhat larger than a normal sized bar, with the Pears name indented on the top and bottom of the soap. It also says it's transparant. It is to a point.

The smell of the soap is quite strong and potent, and most probably not to everybody's liking. But the aroma is very different and unique. The instant you smell this, you will know it's Pears. It's hard to descibe the smell. It's not really a sweet smell. It is somewhat bitter, but a pleasant smell. It is, perhaps, the cedar and thyme mixed together that gives it that special smell.

Now that I've talked about the price, colour and aroma, it's on to the most important part - the actual washing part of it!

When washing your hands and body, I did find it lathers up quite well, and soft on the skin as well. Although the soap itself smells strong, it doesn't leave a strong smell on your skin. Of course it smells of Pears, but it's not over-powering. I find it washes well, and last rather a long time as well.

There is no animal fat in this soap and it is not tested on animals.

I like Pears. It leaves a pleasant smell in the bathroom, (or kitchen in Auntie's case!), and it's soft and gentle on the skins. I also like the fact that this soap does last a good while. It might be expensive, but it does last. Compared to other soaps, this is nice and well worth the money.
