Advantages: A soft and gentle soap

Disadvantages: none

A 125 g bar of Pears soap will cost you 95p and believe you me it is money well spent. Pears soap was first sold in 1789 by a Cornish gentleman called Andrew Pears who produced soap from a London factory. Somewhere around 1915 the company was taken over by Lever Brothers and Pears soap production was moved to the North West of England, but I have recently read on the Internet that all of Pears Soap is now made in India.

The fascinating concave shaped bar is not created deliberately, as the soap drys it shrinks which then makes that unique shape.
The soap bar is then left for three months to `age`.
Pear`s is attractively boxed and the transparent bar of soap looks very different to any other soap on the market, the makers name is clearly embossed on the light brown translucent bar.
Pears soap is unisex, its unique fragrance, slightly `woody` would appeal to everyone. The soap builds up a good lather which has a very refreshing feel attached to it.
Pears soap is a `hard` soap, so you get good value for money with the long lasting bar.
We use it as an everyday bath soap, it contains glycerine, natural oils, rosemary, cedar and thyme, so lots of soft and gentle ingredients.
The soap contains no animal fat and it isn't tested on animals.
On the front of the box it states that the soap is hypo-allergenic and you know as soon as you use it that it`s a mild soap.

We always buy the Pears glycerine bar, but there is a green bar which is Pears Natural Oil soap, a Pears Body Wash and a Pears Liquid Hand Wash.

Many people will remember that very famous painting by Sir John Everett Millais` called `Bubbles` which featured many years ago in an advertising campaign for Pears.
Early in the twentieth century Pears also ran an annual competition to find a young female representative who would feature on their packaging and in any promotions. Lots of former `Miss Pears` later entered the modelling world.

Summary: A soft and gentle soap with a gentle fragrance
