Advantages: Cool bottle, doesn't irritate sensitive skin, smells heavenly, nice memories

Disadvantages: People who came round were probably sick of hearing about the bottle

I'm not sure if this counts as the same as the bar soap but the type I bought recently was the handwash in a bottle. I bought it because I have sensitive hands that can't really tolerate soap or a lot of the harsh handwashes on the market (even the ones that claim to be "sensitive"). I had read a review somewhere (sorry dooyoo but I don't think it was here :-s) about how wonderful pears was for sensitive skin, so when I spotted it going cheap in a small convenience store I thought i would try it out. Plus I really liked the bottle, but I'll get to that!

So um yeah the bottle lol. It is a transparent colourless plastic bottle which you can see the liquid soap through. You could call the colour of the liquid orange or brown (or orangey brown) but i like to call it "amber" (because it makes it sound really special lol). The bottle is shaped exactly like a bar of Pears soap which I thought was cool. How sad am I? It has a black pump on the top. On the front of the bottle it has the name, Pears, and underneath it reads "100% soap free. Hypoallergenic. Non-comedegenic". That pretty much tells me I could tolerate the product on my sensitive skin. I took it home and proudly displayed it in my bathroom. I really liked the bottle (probably because I was being a sad-act and the soap-bar shaped bottle amused me or the fact I was referring to the liquid as "amber" tut) so I went home and proudly displayed it in my bathroom and raved to anyone who would listen about how much I liked the bottle. I couldn't decide whether to refer to the bottle as "posh" or "retro" or "classic" etc etc. I asked the opinions of others (most just kind of nodded, smiled and slowly backed away lol) one particular person told me it looked "dated" and "almost tacky-looking". I (strongly, almost fiercely) disagreed. It made my shabby little bathroom look a different place in my opinion ha ha.

But anyway how did I get on with it? Wonderfully! You only need a little squirt to thoroughly cleanse your hands, it lathers up brilliantly and it certainly does what it claims, cleanses without irritating or drying. I'm not sure whether it would be an ideal cleanser to use on your hands after handling something like raw meat or the dustbin but I can't say it wouldn't either, i just simply don't know for sure. The best part of my experience with this handwash was the smell. It is not a strong perfumey smell or anything. I liked the smell from the start but couldn't figure out why, only that it reminded me of my Grandparents old house. I didn't see why it did as I always remembered my Gran having a pink bar of soap in her bathroom. But thinking about it a week later it suddenly occurred to me how did I even know what a bar of Pears soap look like and how did I know for sure the bottle was shaped like a bar of Pears? Then I remembered. Yes my Gran had her bar of pink soap, but my Grandad (who has now died sadly) always had a bar of Pears! That is why everytime I used it my memory took me back to a time when I got to stay at my Grandparents "huge house" (in comparison to where I lived maybe it was) where all the furniture was handmade by my Grandad, and my Gran would put me in dresses and tights and tie ribbons in my hair and I wouldn't mind as for that weekend I was a princess in a huge house. A massive contrast to my usual life. What a way to bring back such memories! It's funny how a smell can make you feel so nostalgic.

So, I have given this product five stars. In my opinion it is attractive, it feels great on my sensitive hands and the smell takes me to another world. I love it!

Summary: An amber-coloured piece of nostalgia in a GREAT bottle
