Advantages: Smells delicious, an adorable Peppa Pig container

Disadvantages: The lather disappears when you start rubbing it in, doesn't wash particularly grubby areas

My 22 month old granddaughter is a Peppa Pig fanatic, the bossy little piggie is fast taking over from Iggle Piggle as her character of choice and I am secretly pleased as I love Peppa almost as much as she does!

When I saw a small range of Peppa Pig toiletries in my local chemist I decided to treat her to the squirty soap as she is just beginning to show an interest in washing herself rather than just looking at the bath as play time. I hadn't noticed until I got it home that the soap actually comes in an aerosol container, I was a little surprised at this as I expected it to be a plastic pump action bottle for some reason.

The next time she visited I ran her a bath and showed her the lovely can which features Peppa and her little brother George splashing around in a bubble bath, it's a very pretty colourful container which was obviously designed with children in mind and I think it looks great on my bathroom shelf next to my more boring shampoo bottles!

My granddaughters hands didn't have quite enough co-ordination or strength to press the aerosol button herself but I positioned her hands where I could press it down and she could catch the soap as it came out. It dispenses much like shaving foam and I was impressed with how soft and silky the foaming soap felt, the soap is a mass of tiny bubbles that feel surprisingly luxurious in my hand.

The smell is gorgeous; it's very fruity and has almost a bubblegum scent to it, much like the Aussie range of shampoos only designed to be more childlike and appealing to toddlers.

When it came to washing my granddaughter I dispensed a good amount of soap and set about rubbing it over her skin. She seemed to like the feeling of the foam as I washed her but I must admit I wasn't terribly impressed with how it worked, the foam doesn't spread across her skin well and dissolved almost down to nothing more or less as soon as I had started. I thought it had a much tackier feeling than I would have liked once the foam itself had disappeared and I began to worry about whether it would leave my granddaughter's skin feeling sticky after washing.

This worry proved unfounded, although I thought the soap was an extremely poor cleanser. My granddaughter had been playing in the garden before her bath and as she is often found on her hands and knees looking for bugs the skin in those areas was grimy and needed a good wash to get her looking pink again. Unfortunately this soap didn't even begin to budge the grime and dirt, even though I gave her knees in particular a good rub I still had to use a handful of Johnson's Baby Bath to really get rid of all the dirt.

After drying my granddaughter I was pleased that the smell lingered on her skin for a while, although I'm glad it wasn't too strong or long lasting as 22 months is a little young to start worrying about fragrance layering! I was also impressed with how soft her skin felt, there was none of the stickiness I had been worried about and her skin felt lovely and smooth and baby-like.

I paid £2.29 for this 230ml tin of Peppa Pig Foaming Soap which I know is expensive, particularly as I wasn't completely impressed with the product itself. However, I'm sure I'll buy it again as my granddaughter loved the fact that she was using a Peppa Pig soap and the smile on her face every time she sees the tin at bath time makes it worth every penny.

Summary: A gloriously scented soap which my granddaughter adores.

Having seen a couple of merchandise featuring this lovable pig, its not hard to fall in love with Peppa. What a pity this soap hasn't been so good though.
