Advantages: stops sweating, long lasting

Disadvantages: has a chemical smell

I'm sure it's a situation that many of us have been in? Attended an interview, important meeting, family wedding etc and you are just hoping that you don't start sweating because you are wearing a top which is not Black and the more you think about it the more anxious you become and start sweating more! The last thing that you want is for all to see that you have sweaty armpits and have to walk around with your arms firmly to your side!

I have used numerous anti-perspirants in the past and found that when I change brand, they work for a few weeks and then the effect seems to wear off. I saw PerspireX on the shelf next to the other deodorants and picked it up as it was bright Blue in colour and the top of the box had a triangle shape, which made it stand out from all the others.

PersprieX costs around £7.00 for 25ml, which is expensive compared to other anti-perspirants. The difference between paying £7.00 for an anti-perspirant or paying around £2.00 is that PerspireX really does stop you from sweating.

PerspireX (as the name suggests) is an underarm roll-on anti-perspirant for problem wetness, which is not to be used on any other part of the body. It is labelled as an 'unperfumed' roll-on and although it doesn't have the usual floral smell of a deodorant it does have a very strong chemical smell. It also has a patented formula which does give long-lasting protection from wetness and odour and means that you only need to use it 2-3 times a week. It is so effective that even after going for a run, I still didn't have sweaty armpits! Now that is amazing.

PerspireX needs to be applied at night as the sweat glands produce less sweat at night, which makes the anti-perspirant more effective. In the morning you wash it off and it doesn't need to be re-applied for another 3 days or so, as PerspireX leaves a film of anti-perspirant on your armpits. It may seem strange but even after washing your armpits, they still seem to be dry!

If there is one piece of advice that you should take from this review, it's to make sure that you do not use PerspireX within 24 hours of shaving your armpits. Don't feel tempted to use it at night having shaved your underarms the morning, as it will hurt. I ended up with raw and red armpits and it felt as if I had rubbed sandpaper on my underarms. It did take a few days for my underarms to heal as they felt grazed.

The disadvantages, just a couple to mention. Firstly, I don't want to get into a debate about the long term effects of using anti-perspirants as I am reviewing a product and not the possible health issues related to using anti-perspirants. However I do have to question whether it is healthy to use PerspireX frequently. The aluminium salts in anti-perspirants block your pores to stop you from sweating and as it is natural for our bodies to sweat, by continually blocking the sweat glands, so I tend to use PerspireX occasionally.

I have also found that when the anti-perspirant wears off after a few days, your underarms develop a 'smell'. Now this isn't a usual body odour smell or sweaty smell, it's hard to describe, more like a chemical smell, which seems to last for a few days. Luckily it only seems to be me who notices this smell and is not noticeable by others (well no one has told me that I smell!).

Overall, I would recommend PerspireX but more as an anti-perspirant for occasional rather than weekly use, as the product is very strong. It needs to be used properly; otherwise you can burn your underarms. It is more expensive than other anti-perspirants but it is very effective at keeping your armpits sweat-free.
