I came across the Peter Thomas Roth range of body care products when I stayed in a hotel earlier this year and got to use some of the complimentary items provided in my room. I took this Mega-Rich Body Lotion home with me as I had part-used it during my stay, and the 27ml travel size bottle is a handy size for travelling with.
Product description: "Clinical skin care with vitamins C, E and pro vitamin B5 for soft smooth nourished moisturised skin.
A mega-effective body lotion that instantly soothes and nourishes dehydrated skin, leaving skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturised."
I hadn't heard of the brand before and wasn't particularly impressed with the appearance of the packaging so didn't know what to expect from actually using it. The lotion comes in a plain white bottle with bold black writing on it, and has a very simple design overall. I find it more practical for the packaging to be transparent so you can see how much product is left inside, and it was impossible to judge this with the solid white plastic packaging. The bottle has a flip-top cap at the base of the tube, which means that it is easy to dispense the lotion through the small hole inside the cap.
The lotion itself is plain white and has quite a thick texture to it with almost a greasy looking sheen to it. Despite this it spreads easily over the skin and it is absorbed instantly without leaving any residue behind. The lotion gives a moisturising effect that I can feel straight away and leaves my skin with a smooth finish. I find it quite nice to use after shaving my legs when my skin is feeling drier than usual, as the lotion soaks in really quickly and brings my skin back to balance. This is a clinical skin care product so I had thought it might have a bit of a synthetic chemical fragrance, but instead it came across as having quite a strong natural scent that I would normally associate with organic beauty products. Unfortunately it is quite similar to some plant-based products I've used before that have a hint of garden weeds and decomposing compost heap sort of fragrance! I thought this was odd as I couldn't figure out why this product would have such an unpleasant scent to it. Another negative point is that the initial good results just do not last. The lotion doesn't seem to provide a long-lasting effect and I have to apply it at least twice a day to keep my skin feeling in good condition, which is inconvenient and I found it disappointing that the nice smooth moisturised finish I get after application is only temporary.
This body lotion is good for giving an instant boost to dry skin, but it does not give lasting results and the odd smell is off-putting. It was a nice enough freebie and the travel size is convenient, but based on my experience I won't be looking to purchase this product for myself.
