Advantages: Easy to use, Inexpensive, Works well
Disadvantages: None
I warned you that I would be writing about my Christmas presents didn't I? Well this one is a little belter! I had an electric Ladyshave made by Philips about 20 years ago and it still works, but only just. I find that as I am trying to shave under my arms the plug keeps working loose from the socket and the shaver keeps cutting out. So when mom and dad asked what they could buy me for Christmas I told them that a new Ladyshave would make life easier for me. They told me to choose one myself so that I got exactly what I wanted. When I came to look at the choice I was surprised by how many different makes and models there were. I could have wet, dry, rechargeable, battery powered, electric, expensive or reasonable. I chose the Philips HP 6305, which is rechargeable, and works in either wet or dry conditions, a cost of £33, although I got it from my catalogue on special offer so mom and dad only had to pay £30.52 and I still get the commission too! Do I like it? Yes indeed! Has it improved in 20 years? You bet! The new Ladyshave is about 5 inches long by one and a half inches wide and about half an inch deep. It is slightly 'S' shaped so it feels really comfortable to hold whether using it in the bedroom or in the bath. It is a pale peach colour with a slightly darker peach trim so it's very pretty too. It has a switch on the front, which is pushed upwards to turn the Ladyshave on and is easily operated one handed. This means that now I can stand in front of a mirror to shave under my arms, instead of having to sit on the floor near to the socket and try and peer round at my armpits to see if I had shaved them properly. Don't try and imagine the scene it's not a pretty sight believe me! The new Ladyshave comes complete with a charging unit in the darker shade of peach, measuring about two inches wide by two and a half inches long and about an inch and a half high,
which in turn has the standard two-pin plug that all electric razors have so you'll need an adaptor too. When I saw that the instruction book was 69 pages long I did wonder how complicated an electric razor could get but then I realised that the instructions were written in no less than thirteen different languages! Before I used the razor for the first time I had to charge it for at least eight hours to make sure that it was fully charged. This is very easy to do - I just had to plug in the charging unit and attach the razor by pushing the two metal pegs inside the base of the razor into the holes in the front of the charging unit. I had to be sure of two things at this point - that the razor was switched off and that my hands were dry. There's a light on the front of the unit, which illuminates to show that the razor is charging correctly. Once fully charged the razor will shave for 20 minutes before needing to be recharged. It is suggested that the razor be stored on the charger at all times when not in use so that it is constantly being recharged but I intend to just recharge mine as and when it needs it. I have enough things lying around the place without having this constantly plugged in! To use the Ladyshave all I have to do is switch it on and move it across the skin against the growth of the hair and I get a lovely smooth finish. It is OK to use this appliance on the underarms, the legs and the bikini line. I would rather use the epilator on my legs though, as the regrowth isn't at all stubbly, as it tends to be with any razor. To clean the Ladyshave I just have to make sure it's switched off and remove the shaving head by just holding it between my finger and thumb and pulling gently. I then blow the hairs out of the unit and use the brush provided to brush any remaining hairs out of the unit and also to brush the hairs out of the top of the Ladyshave before replacing t
he head. The head is then replaced by pushing it gently back into place and there is a protective cover, which fits over the top of the shaving head by clicking it into place when the razor is not in use. The only maintenance that the Ladyshave should need is to be lubricated with a drop of sewing machine oil twice a year. Mind you I was advised to do that with my old one and I never remembered to do it and that lasted me 20 years so it can't be that important! Philips guarantees the product worldwide for a period of twelve months against defective workmanship or parts, and Philips can be contacted on their web site at www.homeandbody.philips.com All in all I am very impressed with my new toy, it really does make shaving a lot easier! By the way I know that this isn't the exact same model as the category title (it's HP6305 not HP2750) but have you tried getting a new ctaegory set up these days?
