I have been using Philips epilator for years now and I am absolutely thrilled about it. Well we’ve been through hell together but slowly we accommodated to one another and today I don’t know what I would do without it.
I was a national swimmer and shaving was part of the sport… Beauty saloons are brilliant but they tend to be expensive at the end and I couldn’t afford to spend too much time in the bathroom trying to get all the hairs away.
I bought few times simple razors to do the job but heavy rash and burns quickly appeared and add to that lumpy skin because of the swimming pool water chemicals. I have also tried wax and hair removal creams but I had enough of sticky calves and thighs and I looked silly wandering in the house for 10 minutes with fluffy legs. They work for sure but I wasn’t satisfied with the results.

I often wondered what it was really like to pass this epilator my mum had as a present but seeing her in great pain put me off. Funnily enough I just couldn’t resist and finally faced the terror machine;

How it works:
Just plug it in and the fitted tweezers simply remove gently but firmly and efficiently the undesirable hair at the root. You can alter the speed of the apparel on setting it either on high or low depending on the area you shave.

The first time:
Shockingly painful but still not as bad as I would ha
ve imagined because my mum told the pain will probably be more than I could bear. What a great comfort, isn’t it? Well I hear you from here. Pain? No thanks not for me but honestly after a few times the pain goes away significantly and you will even not notice any more you are actually shaving.

Sensations:
tingly. The apparel is actually pulling the hair and the skin at the same time and this gives an awkward feeling. Discomfort becomes less noticeable once you use it on a regular basis though.

Tips:
Hold the part of the skin you are shaving with your hand (try to stretch it) it would be less sore.
Before using the Satinelle, make sure your skin is clean, dry, and free of lotion, antiperspirant, or any other kind of residue. Also, exfoliate the skin prior to epilating to encourage the hairs to stick out from your skin, which will ensure faster and easier hair removal.

Positive view:
The growth is slower and your hairs are smoother. You won’t have to shave as often. I reckon for myself every three weeks is enough to keep soft and perfectly bold legs. Of course the pattern of growth is different in each person and you might have to repeat the operation sooner or later. Promotes thinner AND slower regrowth.
Some areas stay hairless and close shaving results.
The motor is strong and the mechanisms flawless, even after heavy long-term use.
Satinelle is a product that doesn't ever need replaced, I've saved an enormous amount of money in hair-removal products.

Negative sides:
Must be used with an electrical cord, and you have to manoeuvre into some pretty ridiculous positions to use it at times.
A little loud
Some ingrown hairs

Overall thought:
Very good invention and will save you lots of hassle. It takes a while to get used to it but it is really worth it.
I even tried it on my bikini line and underarms. And I can tell you it is slightly more painful but very
efficient. And if you hold the skin as explained few lines above, it is even better.
So get down to it.

Will let Mrs Skoda have a copy of this op before buying her Xmas pressy. Her electric razor has just packed up after many years service.

Would I try the epilator on myself?

NO! - but I'm a coward and would need a more powerful pain softener.

I used to have one of these but I am now using the Babylis version which is a bit cheaper. Still good though. I was completely lost when my Philips died in the middle of a heat wave last summer! Great op. Jo

I tried a forerunner of this years ago and couldn't bear it. If continued use really does mean less pain, then I might try it again.
