Having used standard anti-perspirants for many years, a few years ago a friend introduced me to the idea of crystal deodorants. I was very sceptical at first, but agreed to give it a go. The Pitrok Push Up Crystal Deodorant is a natural alternative to conventional deodorant. It is free from aluminium chlorohydrate and aluminium zirconium, parabens and triclosan, which many people chose to avoid in their toiletries these days. It consists of mineral salts in stone form, and claims to prevent bacteria (which cause odour) from multiplying without blocking pores. They contain no animal products and are not tested on animals. Pitrok also claims that these ... Read the complete review

I admit it, like most people I've read about the negative effects of average antiperspirants and deodorants. And like most people I've completely ignored these claims for lack of real evidence. Antiperspirants work by blocking pores and preventing sweating. Deodorants work by masking the smell produced by bacteria colonising sweat with a stronger scent. PitRok and other natural mineral products work by preventing the bacteria from growing in the sweat. I'm not going to lecture on what is "best" because that depends on your personal taste. PitRock Push-up Crystal Deodorant is a solid underarm deodorant made from pure natural mineral salts. To my horror, it would seem to mix with the sweat and I worried this would stain my tops (that and show I had sweaty underarms!). I also found that it blocked my pores and this resulted in a small lump forming (somewhat worrying to start off with!). Having talked with a friend, who pointed out the aluminium content of the usual deodorants, I decided to try a more natural one. ... Read the complete review

This was a product I initially got excited about when I saw it as it is a natural alternative to the harsh chemical-based deodorants on the market. On first inspection it has so much going for it: eco-friendly. animal cruelty free and so long lasting. All you have to do to use is wet the crystal with water and roll on, the natural action of the crystal reacts with bacteria contained in sweat and masks the odour. Expensive though at first I wanted to give it a go and tried it for a week. I was however really disappointed. The fact is that it did not work for me. Apart from feeling uncomfortably sticky the crystal did not control odour for more than an hour leaving me ... Read the complete review
