I am also from a Mediterranean background and applied as instructed, I did use gloves though and sprayed on to my hands and occasionally my skin as I applied it in the same fashion as I would sun lotion the result was almost seem less only slightly darker elbows too and the smell wasn't to bad ether would recommend showering an hour or two after applying if you are going to go out in light cloths as with all self tanners and to avoid any uneven coverage I would highly recommend it
