Advantages: Energising, cleansing, non drying

Disadvantages: More expensive than its peers.

Last year I received, as many people did, a trial sample of a "new" shower product from Radox.....never one to turn down a freebie, I accepted gratefully, and became introduced to the "shower smoothie"......and I have to say that I have discovered a fantastic product as a result.

The free sample was of "soul soother" - a fruity little number, which has its own category on dooyoo, so will get a review under that heading in due course. Since then, though, I have a new favourite in "Energy Therapy", which is the green tube shown in the picture above.

This is an shower gel that is more expensive than many mainstream products, at around £3.00 to £3.50 for a standard 200ml tube, it costs more than most, but it can often be found on BOGOF in Boots, so I just tend to stock up then.....after all, there are several of us in this household, so showers are frequent, and we go through a lot of shower gel type stuff!

The "shower smoothie" is a shower gel by any other name, except it is more cream-like than gel-like in appearance or texture. Because it has the name "smoothie", though, the bottle does remind you not to drink it. Whether this is a bit of a joke on the part of Radox, or whether they really do think that we lack such common sense, I don' know.....but I have never really felt the urge to drink shower gels, bubble baths or shampoos, however delicious they may smell......hmmm!!

The Energy Therapy smoothie describes itself thus:

"An uplifting ginseng and guarana shower smoothie with lemongrass and soft loofah bits. Smell me. Zingy and bursting with energising ingredients. Thick and creamy. Your skin will thank you."

I need my shower in the morning to help wake me up and get me going for the rest of the day. I also put myself under a lot of stress in the normal course of my day, and that presents itself in a number of ways, from the general tiredness that I often feel, through to the state of my skin. Getting a shower that energises me and makes my skin feel a little more alive, therefore, is a very necessary start to my day! However, so often, shower gels just dry my skin out more, or have an underlying chemical tang to them, thereby getting me clean, but not exactly providing me with the feel good start to the day that I crave!

This Energy Therapy smoothie however, solves my morning problems......very pale green in appearance, and very creamy, it has lots of little bits of loofah in it. My first impression was that these "bits" would be annoying, but actually they are anything but - they simply help to exfoliate my skin, making it feel fresher and more alive, before the bits are just rinsed away in the shower.....I have never found myself doing battle with bits of loofah after the shower has finished, so no annoying stuff going on there.

You can, of course, use the shower smoothie by applying it with your hands. This doesn't work for me, partly I expect because we live in a very hard water area, so lathering up is difficult regardless of the product, but if you are looking for a creamy application rather than a foamy one, this would work fine.

For me, though, I use a shower buff - you know, one of those net scrunchy things. This means that I only need to use a small amount of shower smoothy, and it DOES lather up nicely, despite my hard water location, and it also helps in the general boost of circulation that is going to get me up and moving! I would certainly recommend using this product with a buff...

The smell is divine - it is unlike any other shower gel I have known. It is quite a subtle smell - fresh and clean, rather than seaweedy or herby, for example. Because it is not an overpowering smell, it doesn't linger on the skin for very long, but I don't find that this is a problem. My aim is to get clean and energised......body lotion and perfume will provide my skin with the ongoing scent I want for the remainder of the day.

I would certainly recommend the Energy Therapy shower smoothie - it gives me a clear head in the mornings, gives my skin a lovely boost without drying it out, smells lovely and fresh, and with the use of a shower buff, it lasts quite a while, thereby giving value for money, despite the slightly higher price tag. It is suitable for males and females, and my teenagers love it too - always a bonus when trying to get 13 year old boys to wash!!

I've not yet tried the "Natural balance" smoothie.......but I will be doing so next time they are on BOGOF.....

Summary: Anything that gives me energy in the morning has to be worth a try!
