Radox is really not that good (Radox Showerfresh Revitalise!)

Advantages: the bottle design, a good enough shower gel

Disadvantages: Just not good enough, wealk smell

Note it seems they have renamed the Radox shower gels so this seems to be the nearest category to put this product in*
I remember a time when Radox was the number one shower gel and was also seen as a nice treat as it was a bit on the pricey side. Cheaper shower gels really did not smell that nice. They were either flowery, peach or else smelled suspiciously like washing up liquid.

I was in Boots recently and needed every day shower gel. Radox was on special at two for two pounds. They are normally 1.50 but you can get it cheaper in places like Bodycare and Semi-Chem. The bottles are 250 ml so are a decent size. I selected the fruity one and the deep moistorising one. This review will be on the fruity one in the orange bottle with fruit extracts designed to energise.


A quick note on the packaging.

I actually think shower gel packaging is important as you want to be able to hang it up and also make sure it does not leak. The bottle is bright orange with a picture of a water nelson. Due to this I would expect the smell of the gel to somewhat resemble water melon but I am getting ahead of myself. I?m not too keen on the coloured plastic as it us difficult to gauge how full the bottle is. I prefer clear bottles. The bottle has two good design features. It does have a decent sized hook so it is easy to hang up. The valve in the bottom of the bottle is really good so it is unlikely to leak and waste valuable shower gel

The smell

On opening the bottle I do not get the strong smell of fruit I get with say Original Source, or the cheaper imitations. There is a vague sort of citrus smell but it is mixed in with the famous Radox herbs to give it an almost mineral like smell. There is certainly no smell of water melon here. I feel really let down by the smell. I want a real zingy gel to wake me up and this just does not cut the mustard.
I squirt a small amount of the orange gel onto my Willy the whale wash mitt.
The consistency of the shoiwer gel is average not too runny but I have seen thicker more jelly like gels which I prefer as they seem to lather up better.

The lather of the shower gel is not to bad There is plenty of it but the suds seem to be a bit on the small side and not as thick and creamy as other shower gels. I am disappointed as I love a load of lather with my shower gel.
The after effects.

I always like to check my skin a while after the shower to see how long the fragrance lasts and see if has softened and moistureised my skin. The shower gel was supposed tocontian added skin conditioners. My skin does feel nice and soft but I have had better shower gel that does miusturuse my skin which can get quite dry. I try and smell my skin but the smell is very very faint. I ask my sister if she can smell anything and she said she could smell something but she did not think it was fruit.

Would I buy this shower gel again??

I really doubt it. I felt really let down by Radox. It did not feel like the treat it once was. The smell is no better than any oher shower gels. I think my zingy orange 79 pence stuff from Semi Chem smelled nicer and woke me up better than this. I did not think it was any better at lathering or mousturisng than any of the other shower gels. I just felt it was a major let down. It seems cheap shower gels have come on leaps and bounds whilst Radox seems to have fallen by the way side.
