Advantages: Soothing, cleansing, natural ingredients
Disadvantages: As with Sanctuary, you may not find the smell pretty enough
For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive lots of pampering beauty products, one item given to me by a friend was a bottle of REN Seaweed and Sage Shower Wash. My friend is aware of the problems I face when choosing beauty products as I have extremely sensitive and damaged skin so she chose this product specifically for its gentle formula and natural ingredients.
I first used it on Boxing Day as the shower wash comes in such a posh bottle that I thought it might help the somewhat deflating feeling that Christmas was over and all I now had to look forward to was a cold and wet January. I have to say I loved the shower wash intensely from that very first shower.
The first thing I noticed was the beautiful scent of the product, the shower wash is dispensed via pump action and as soon as you release a little there is a wonderful fresh scent of flowers and herbs. It's similar to the kind of smell you expect from Sanctuary products in that it doesn't attempt to smell 'pretty' as most shower gels do, but has an aroma that will convince you this is a serious product that will do it's job with a minimum of embellishment.
The shower wash has the perfect consistency, not unlike a regular shower gel but a little smoother in texture. I used it on my natural sponge and this was perfect for the purpose as it spread the gel over my skin well and left me feeling squeaky clean after my shower. After drying myself my skin felt moisturised and soft, I used a light body lotion afterwards and this was all I needed in the way of moisturiser - this may sound like nothing to you but bear in mind that I usually need a thick oily cream to get my skin feeling halfway decent after cheaper shower gels so this is definitely an improvement!
After my shower I was still aware of the glorious scent of the product which lingered on my skin all day long, it's such a fresh smell that I loved it and felt so clean all day. I was almost sorry to sink into my bath in the evening as I didn't want to rid myself of the beautiful smell of the REN.
I believe the 200ml bottle costs around £12 which is rather expensive for a shower gel but it's such an excellent product that this doesn't seem an overly heavy price tag at all.
Summary: A wonderful shower gel which is pricey but definitely worth every penny.

- 11/02/09 This sounds nice. I can't stand cheap shower gels - I think it's the sodium laurel sulphate that's a skin irritant. |
