Advantages: an all round excellent purchase
Disadvantages: natural light required to apply... ;)
Just the other week I accidentally dropped my compact of face powder on the floor. With a smash a tinkle and a puff I was off to tesco, mightily miffed that £8 worth of No7 was now providing a soft flawless finish to a layer of tarmac!! Whilst seeking a replacement for the afore mentioned product my eyes strayed to Rimmel's natural bronzer compact and my interest was piqued. Now I have used bronzer in the past and never ever got on with it. My results have generally ended up as either "you know that you've been tango'd" or more patchy than my nannas old patchwork quilt!! That was when I was about 18 and my courage has failed me since. So considering it high time I was adult enough to atleast be able to apply bronzer effectively I paid my £4.99 and left the store with my purchase.
** The Packaging**
The Bronzer comes in a small plastic palette in a selection of 3 shades. The lid is clear and declares that the product carries a sun protection factor of 8, which I thought was a nice touch in the bronzer. The product within doesn't contain a sponge and you can see the surface of the bronzer that is embossed with a rather attractive picture of the sun. The rear of the palette
gives the shade that you are purchasing, the ingredients and the contact details for rimmel.
** Applying the product**
I choose to apply the product to my skin with a flat foundation sponge rather than a brush. This is just as I don't enjoy the spatter of powder that can adorn your clothes after spreading powder with a brush and find a sponge gives me more control. So, opening the lid of the product i tilted it slightly and saw that there was indeed a definate shimmer in the powder. I noticed that there was absolutely no fragrance to the product at all other than a very subtle powdery smell.
I dabbed my sponge and applied it to the apples of my cheeks and gasped in a little bit of shock horror!! the sight was reminiscent of Bridget Jones where she arrives at the dance having applied make up in the taxi... With a deep breath I persevered and began to spread the powder around my face.
I was absolutely amazed at how easily the product spread and how flawless it made my skin appear. The product felt almost creamy as I was moving it around my face and quite moisturising to my skin.
Once I had acheived an even coverage i took a good look in the mirror and was extremely pleased with the results.
The powder evened out the texture and colour of my skin, making my skin look much improved from its natural state. The shimmer highlighted natural areas such as the top of my cheeks and nose making my features more 3 dimensional than usual and the shade that I used made me look slightly sun kissed as opposed to all out bronze. The only thing I did notice is that it took quite a bit to blend it at the edges to avoid the typical tidemark that bronzers can give you.
** My opinion**
I am exceptionally pleased that I bought this product. It will now remain a staple in my bag even throughout the winter months. The powder went on evenly and didnt cause the tightening feeling that some foundations can give you, as if they are sapping the moisture from the skin. The product and the shimmer has so far lasted for 8 out of 12 hours at work, only requiring a very slight re-application around my forehead and nose. It has also lasted for a rather hot and sweaty night out on the tiles involving lots of dancing, again only with a slight reapplication to the above area. Only word of warning, be sure to apply the product in a well lit area or over application will lead to dramatically different results to those mentioned above!!!
I would recommend this product to anyone and was a very good use of a fiver. I am a die hard No7 fan but just occasionally another manufacturer manages to remind me that there are other good ones out there. This product certainly acheives that.
Summary: You won't be wasting your money
