Advantages: cheap, doesn't irritate

Disadvantages: doesn't moisturise, bland smell, no lather

Lately I've developed very sensitive skin. My usual highly-fragranced shower gels (Lush, Dove and Radox) have begun to make me itch and come out in rashes, so with great reluctance I've had to put them in the cupboard and go in search of a non or lightly scented product that doesn't irritate, moisturises and makes me feel fresh and clean. The first one I tried was Sanex DermoMoisturising Body Wash.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Nothing spectacular to look at: a large, clear plastic squeezy bottle with a flip-top lid. Doesn't look expensive, doesn't look cheap. Something of a nonentity really.

SMELL

A flip of the lid and a good sniff and you discover a hardly discernible scent at all. Just a very faint aroma that reminds me of nothing in particular.

FACTS

Sanex is soap-free.

It costs around £2.99 for a whopping 500 ml from most major supermarkets.

CLAIMS

Sanex contains something called 'Dermo Oil'. According to the blurb, this is similar to the natural oils produced by our bodies and adds moisture to dry skin leaving it soft, supple and all the usual strokable things. Sanex also claim that this effect will last all day.

IN USE

Sanex has a very thin consistency, so don't squeeze too hard.

I used it on a sponge which usually makes a load of wonderful lather whatever is squirted onto it, but alas not with this. Sanex makes hardly any lather at all, either on your sponge or on your body, and I needed to use quite a lot to feel that I'd actually cleaned myself.

Using Sanex is a very uninspiring experience, whereas I like to feel in the shower or bath that I'm having a bit of a pamper.

AFTER EFFECTS

On the plus side, however, you do feel clean after washing with Sanex (but then you would with any shower gel, wouldn't you?), and it hasn't made my skin itch or come out
in a rash.

That's little recompense, though, for the fact that after using Sanex, my skin does not feel moisturised at all. In fact, after two weeks of using it almost daily, I can say that my skin is visibly drier than it was before I started, and it doesn't feel remotely soft or silky.

RECOMMENDATION

At £2.99 for 500 ml, Sanex is very reasonably priced. In terms of value for money, although, I give it a big thumbs down as it doesn't do what it says it does - i.e. moisturise - and it has in fact left me with pretty unstrokable skin. Whatever this 'Dermo Oil' is, it isn't very effective.

Sanex DermoMoisturising Body Wash is a bog standard product with no luxuriousness whatsoever and I would only recommend it if your skin can't tolerate anything else.

Personally, I'm about to chuck mine in the bin and continue my quest to find a non-irritant body wash that moisturises my skin, smells reasonably inviting and doesn't leave me feeling like an overdried raisin.

I need to be careful if I have used something which has irritated my skin and always make for the Sanex. I do find it lathers very well and corrects the irritation. An individual thing probably. :-)

I tried Sanex handwash and it definitely made my hands drier. After that, there's no way I'd use any other Sanex products.
