Advantages: last for ages
Disadvantages: no smell
Not long before Christmas I stopped breastfeeding our son, it was a very emotional time – I was sad that phase of his life had passed (I used to love him snuggling up next to me before he went to bed) but I was also VERY happy. Why? Well because it meant that I would be able to use whatever types of deodorant I wanted to. You see when Tafara was very young we discovered that most of my favourite brands made him come up in a rash – so I’d managed to find a cheap and nasty (it DID work though) one that didn’t affect him. Anyhow, once I finished breastfeeding I was looking forward to finding an exciting and new deodorant to try. On our next trip to Tesco I ordered Nick to keep Tafara happy whilst I scoured the shelves for something interesting. As you may know, from earlier opinions, I rather like any product that has an interesting or exotic smell – and that’s what I look for first. When I spotted it I thought it sounded wonderful – the scent was called ‘Exotic Fresh’ and it came in an attractive blue container. The brand name was ‘Secret’ and it was a Clear Dry Stick – meaning that instead of the common roll-on or spray types of application this one is in the form of a solid white block’ which could be moved in and out of the container using a little round ‘screw’ on the bottom of the container. It was priced at £1.98 for 50mls – which seemed quite expensive, but it lasts such a long time that it’s worth it. The deodorant is made by Procter & Gamble and is actually available in four different scents: Nature Fresh Exotic Fresh Pastel Fresh and Simply (you guessed it) Fresh. When I got home I was eager to try it out. I didn’t really need ‘freshening’ up but I decided to use the stick anyway. I opened the lid and took a good deep sniff…….and another one – perhaps I needed to blow my nose –
I tried it again. There was no nice smell that I’d hoped for – actually it didn’t really smell of anything. Very disappointing there. What about the claim on the container that it ‘Goes on clear’? Well on this account I was very pleased. Since buying this deodorant I’ve read a few opinions that say that it leaves little white bits on their clothes. I haven’t had any problem. It says on the container that just 2 strokes under each arm does the job, to be honest I never read that until later and always use three or four strokes (I think – although I never really count). The first time I used it I switched on the light – lifted my arms in the air and had a good look in the mirror – well I certainly couldn’t see it – so it is definitely clear. The next question was whether it was going to leave any marks on my clothing – I’m very rarely seen in brightly coloured tops – my favourites are black, dark blue and dark green – so anything white would show up clearly. Evening came and I got ready for bed. Off came my top (ok you men can stop getting exited) and I checked it to see if there was anything on there – NOTHING. In fact I’ve never had any little white bits on my clothes at all, and I’ve been using this deodorant for almost 2 months now. Now I suppose you’re all wondering whether the stuff actually works – or is Nick sitting the other side of the room with a clothes peg on his nose. Well last time I checked he didn’t have anything on his nose (except for that one little spot – shhh) and he’s not complained at all about me smelling so it must be doing a pretty decent job. I’ve recently started using an exercise bike once a day, having a small son means that I don’t get a chance to shower after cycling a few miles (usually it’s straight back downstairs to play) and despite being very hot and
sweaty my armpits have stayed dry. I don’t even need to apply any more after exercising – the amount that I put on in the mornings lasts the whole day. So the deodorant lasts all day, but how long does a container last? Remember I said I’d been using this particular deodorant for 2 months – well it’s the same bottle as I bought that day in Tesco – and at a guess (I’m not going to wind the whole thing out to see exactly how much I’ve used) I’d say I’ve probably got AT LEAST another 2 months left – it’s possibly more – but then I could be lying (and then you’d all come back and rate this UH – maybe you already did J ). So we’ve figured out that it doesn’t smell of anything, the effects last all day and the container for months (not bad for £1.98)and that over all I'd recommend it so what’s in this stuff? Well apart from containing No Alcohol it has in it: Cyclopentasiloxane, Aluminium Zirconium Trichlorohydrex GLY, Octyldodecanol, Hydroxystearic Acid, Dibutyl Lauroyl Glutamide, C20-40 Pareth-10, C20-40 Pareth-40, Parfum, C20-40 Alcohols, (I thought that there was no alcohol – answers to this on a postcard please) Disodium EDTA For more information you can either write to them at: Procter & Gamble UK, Weybridge, Surrey, KT3 0XP, UK Or phone them on: UK: 0800 7317540 Ireland: 1800 509486
