Advantages: Does what it claims to do and more
Disadvantages: A bit expensive
My daughter suffers from sensitive teeth. We have had them checked by the dentist and they are all fine, probably just her getting used to her adult teeth. The dentist suggested using a toothpaste specifically aimed at sensitive teeth and managed to convince us that they do usually tend to work. Of course the day the dentist suggested this Erin happened to see an advert on the television for the new Sensodyne ISOactive Multi Action Toothpaste in a can and of course insisted this was the one she had to have! Luckily being a new product it was on special offer in Tesco, reduced from £3.99 to £2.79 for a 100ml can, so being such a pushover, I relented and bought it.
The can itself was quite unusual looking for a toothpaste, to be quite honest it looked more like a thin can of deodorant with a frosted blue plastic lid. I had the urge to shake the can, as you usually do with cans, but there is no need to you just take off the lid and press the top and the blue coloured gel is released. It wasn't really much different in look to that of any other gel toothpaste other than the fact that the amount squeezed out is much thinner in size to that dispensed from an ordinary tube or pump, probably about quarter of the thickness, so you do need to give a good squeeze to get a sufficient amount with which to brush your teeth. The smell was a definite mint smell but did smell very mild.
At first I wasn't too keen to use this gel toothpaste for myself because it is advertised as a "foaming" gel and I really did not like my previous experience of using a foaming toothpaste - it foamed up far too much and almost choked me, but I was pleased to find that this one didn't foam up as much, it did definitely foam, but just enough to work up a good lather to give your teeth a sparkling clean. It foamed to quite a creamy consistency, which during the brushing process, almost felt like it was being massaged into your gums and appeared to coat your teeth with a lovely clean and fresh feeling. It had a very mild mint taste, which although did leave your mouth with a fresh and clean feeling didn't quite give that WOW, almost nippy fresh feeling that stronger mint flavours can give.
The results seemed to be really good too. My daughter's teeth aren't nearly as sensitive now, they are still very occasionally sensitive but now she can eat her 4 ice lollies a day without cringing with every bite! I also genuinely feel that, although the Sensodyne Gel does not claim to whiten your teeth I personally feel that I have noticed a difference in the whiteness of all my families' teeth, which was an added bonus.
My daughter and I would definitely recommend this toothpaste and would definitely buy it again but my husband and son, although happy enough with the results prefer a stronger mint toothpaste, so I'll just have to buy 2 different types of toothpaste now!
My only complaints are very petty ones - with the gel being in a can you can't see when the toothpaste is nearly finished and the weight of the can never really seemed to change either so you really just have to keep a spare one handy. We did however find that when the can was nearly finished it did become more difficult to squeeze the gel out, so I suppose that should really be warning enough. Also the top of the can should be wiped clean after use as it can really become quite sticky and messy, but of course the males in my household just can't seem to master this with the result that my daughter are I are always left to clean away the dry and crusted gel from the top before we use it again!
This list of ingredients is endless but for more information on this product you can visit their website at www.sensodyne.co.uk
We bought this on 15th April and I just threw out the empty can this morning so my family of 4 managed to get 6 weeks from the can. Although I do think this is very expensive at £3.99 it did last a long time and my daughter and I were more than pleased with the results.
Thanks for reading.
