Advantages: It reall really works!
Disadvantages: The price, and the fact the size is so small for the price
I used to use the normal sensodyne tooth paste, not so much out of preference but more because I needed it. It was the only tooth paste that reduced the sensitivity of my teeth, I found that whatever else I tried, if it were colgate for sensitive teeth, macleans for sensitive teeth, aqua fresh... nothing else worked.
So when sensodyne brought this 'pro-namel' out I had mixed feelings. At first I was really glad there would be some variation, I get bored with only being able to use 4 only slightly different tooth pastes, and desperatly wanted a change-and it was in a cute package too!.
But then I saw the price tag- its like £3 for a tiny 75 mls! This is alot more then the 100mls they usually sell for £2.
But I was 'feeling flush' and thought I would try a tube. And now I will only use this tooth paste.
Its in a nice tube, its got a not too strong taste and cleans very well.
What made me want to try (aside from the packaging and boredom from my normal tooth paste), was the claims it made. I have sensitive teeth, but not in the way most people get them, most people will have receeding gums, making the nerves to the tooth less protected from hot and cold meaning that it can hurt to eat certain foods.
This receeding gum line can be brought about by many things: it can be genetic, it can be from brushing teeth too hard (electric tooth brushes can really affect teeth in this way), it can be brought on with age or it can be a result of bacterial gum problems.
But my sensitve teeth as a result of my past history of eating disorders where my teeth have eroded due to basicly eating too many apples and drinking too much diet coke. Both are like murder for your teeth, especially when one is eaten when the other is drunk, (the acid on the fruit sits on your teeth, then the diet fizzy drinks have lots of little bubbles which smash against your teeth and erode them a whole lot faster.
This tooth paste claimed to recover or replace the enamel that has been lost and by doing so give the nerves that actually live within your teeth better protection. Wow.
Its not just us ex-eating disordered people who will benefit from this, its also people who drink a great deal of sugary drinks, like orange juice, frappachinos, coke-a-cola... or have alcopops of cocktails and go home after a night out without brsing your teeth thoroughly... they all cause acid erosion, they all can result in sensitive teethbrought on by loss of enamel rather then just receeding gums.
Well, it really works, its not a cure to sensitive teeth, it wont take away the pain or restore them completely but it will help massively- more then the normal sesodyne tooth paste. And if it can reduce pain like that, its got to be worth the extra cash.
Summary: If you have suffered acid erosion, buy this
