Advantages: Good value
Disadvantages: None really
I once read in the consumer magazine Which that what toothpaste you used really made very little difference. Since then I have just picked whatever toothpaste is cheapest. Normally this is an item on some kind of special offer or an own brand toothpaste. However, I recently saw a double pack of toothpaste called Signal priced at £1.49, effectively 75p for each tube.
The two tubes come in a cardboard double pack as per usual. Inside there are two 100ml tubes. Each one is white with a blue bubbly background and a stripe of the toothpaste on the front and the Logo Signal. This is not a brand I had heard of previously but apparently it has been around forty years and is produced by the giant Unilever.. It claims to fight decay, strengthen tooth enamel and protect your teeth with fluoride. Unlike most toothpastes this has a screw on top. This can be a bit annoying and fiddly to use but can also mean that you get less gunge accumulating around the top which is a pet hate of mine.
The toothpaste is of an average taste and smell. It is the typical mint that makes you feel clean and fresh. When you squeeze it out, it comes out white with red stripes which looks quite attractive. In fact, this reminds me of the advert for Aquafresh but for the fact that this one has no blue stripe. It is very hard to comment on the effectiveness of toothpaste unless you are a dental professional. It feels like it helps keep my mouth clean but I cannot comment on the claims made by manufacturer due to the nature of the product. I would be happy to recommend this product especially at that price though I think that the toothpaste you pick only has a small bearing on your oral hygiene. I think the way you brush your teeth really makes the difference.
Summary: A good buy
