Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Doesn't work, not worth the hassle!

A few years ago I saw a hair removal mitt in a magazine (not the silkymit, a different one). I thought it looked a good idea - I usually shave or depilatory-cream my legs but wanted something I could do on dry legs, without the hassle of shaving lotion, etc. I never got round to buying one back then so when I saw "The Original Silkymit Hair Removing Glove" in Boots yesterday, I thought I'd get a pack.

I opened the pack and found, basically, 3 pieces of fine sandpaper kinda stuck into a loop. Not even mitt-shaped, in my opinion, just looped round to fit over your hand. I was a bit disappointed but decided to give them a go. The instructions say to use them on dry skin, and to rub the glove on the skin in a circular motion, clockwise then anticlockwise. I did this and naturally the friction caused heat on my legs - not very comfortable! I persisted but the mit was not at all effective - it removed some of the hairs (and skin!) but my legs still feel stubbly and I can get a far better and faster job with a good old razor for a fraction of the price (Tesco Value razors - dead cheap!). I also found it irritated my skin a bit, the packet say "unusually sensitive" skins may experience *slight* irritation, I wouldn't describe my skin as being very sensitive, I am fine with most things, including shower gel, soap, depilatory cream, perfume.

They say on the packet that "Silkymit is more than a simple hair removing product, it is ideal for exfoliating dry rough skin" - that's misleading in my opinion, it suggests it is a hair remover which also exfoliates. It's the other way round if anything, an exfoliator that removes a bit of hair!

I would definitely not recommend this, it's only just over a pound, but it's definitely not worth the hassle. I was looking for a quick and easy way to do my legs dry, but I guess I'll just have to keep looking!

Oh yes, I remember these! I quite liked them actually, but haven't seen any around for absolutley ages! Maybe they stopped making them after sales dropped when people read your review, lol.

Great op,

Ziggy.
